We were promised some sort of official announcement a couple of weeks ago "within a couple of days" - and nothing happened.
I don't think we were...I did report that a local(ish) radio station said they were expecting an announcement "in a couple of days"...obviously unfounded...but the report did come from a TV journalist...
I reckon there won't be any announcement of a new Bond actor until summer or autumn 2017.
Daniel Craig was announced the new Bond October 2005. Casino Royale began filming January 2006.
So there's little point announcing a new actor this year. Bond 25 is unlikely to begin filming until winter 2017 or early 2018. This is why Craig hasn't stated he's quit. He's got enough time to decide. He can announce his retirement next year.
Also, if the new actor was announced this summer, what happens if next year Babs and MG see another actor they like for the role? It's possible! They could regret casting the wrong person. It's better to delay the casting until the last moment to make sure all potential candidates have been seen. I'll be amazed if a new Bond actor is announced this year.

Depends how quickly they get a script together I reckon...Hiddleston has another run out as Loki soon, but his role may not be that big and not require him on set that much...I'd expect news this year...
Well all I can say is Daniel Craig was announced as the new Bond THREE months before Casino Royale began filming. If Bond 25 is out in winter 2018 then the new guy can be announced October 2017. We could have over a year to wait!
And we still don't know if Craig is gone for good. He may change his mind. "I'm back!"

Like I said - script dependant...if they have a script they are happy with, then why wait ?
"There have been no negotiations on where the Bond movie will land (Sony or Warner Bros. are out front on this) and although it was thought that negotiations might start after the first quarter 2016, parties are not likely to engage in negotiations until later this year. There is no workable script yet and the creative elements have yet to come into place. It has also been widely reported (and confirmed by Deadline) that Jamie Bell has discussed the Bond role with his Film Stars Don’t Die movie producer Barbara Broccoli (who has long produced the Bond movies). Craig has been very vocal about not wanting to do another Bond. After Spectre, he said publicly that he would rather slash his wrists than do another in the franchise."
If that is accurate - no script - I guess winter 2018 is the release date for Bond 25. And this means there is enough time for a full and long (!) search for the next James Bond actor.

It would make no sense to announce the next Bond actor this year unless the development on Bond 25 was further along than we assume, and a 2017 release was in fact on the horizon. So all of this media next Bond talk is just speculation otherwise. It just keeps James Bond in the public conscience until something official is announced by EON.
If you look at the previous castings- they've all been announced shortly before filming. In 1994 Pierce was cast in June, and filming was expected to commence later that summer for a summer'95 release. It only changed to January when it was decided rewrites were needed, hence the now traditional November release.
In fact in regards to Bond 25 nothing whatsoever has been announced- just that there will be another film.
I do hope we get some official news regarding Bond 25 this year, like maybe an actual release date, but other than that i'm not counting on much.
EON is caught in a trap. They don't have a distributor. The way it works is that the distributor of the Bond films is expected to out up half the production and marketing costs (MGM puts up the other half) in exchange for a relatively small percentage of the box office gross plus a percentage of the DVD sales, rentals, etc.
Without Craig, they can't get a distributor because it looks like a risky deal. Sony probably made somewhere around $20 million of the box office gross after putting up $175 million for P&M. Now think of the same deal with an untested actor as Bond.
But EON won't be able to get well known actors/director without a distributor because financing will be up in the air.
The situation calls for creativity and brains, two things EON isn't known for.

Not sure I agree with this GB. Bearing in mind recent grosses, especially Skyfall, I can't see that any Bond film will look like a risky deal, especially with the hype surrounding any new actor in the role of Bond. And I think you have to credit EON with brains and creativity bearing in mind the longevity of the series and how much it has grossed. -{

I don't think it's really going to be hard to get a new distributor on board, Bond is always a hot ticket. It may be a question of how good a deal can be negotiated and that certainly could be dependent upon whether Craig returns or who is his replacement. Now allegedley EON has no say in cutting a deal with a new distributor, it's all up to MGM. Potential partners are probably sitting back to see what transpires casting wise. If Craig has really departed, as Gala Brand alluded to so eloquently in the previous post does EON (and you can include the always on the brink of collapse MGM) have the "smarts and arse" to lure the big fish in. Certainly Craig returning would put MGM/EON in a much better bargaining position or even a Michael Fassbender taking on the role.

I remain confident that Eon has already cast a new Bond, regardless of the current lack of a distributor. Bond is a licence to print money.

This is why I wouldn't be surprised if Cavil got offerd 007 he has said publicly ( graham Norton) that he would love to do it and his star is rising but not yet a list but bigenough to be a box office draw

Starting salaries for new Bonds are usually relatively low. And I think it's unlikely they will go with a big movie star the first time for Bond #7. Their success with a little-known and an originally unpopular choice for CR proved to be a very good move. I don't think a new actor will be a big hurdle.
If we have to wait ages for an official announcement regarding the new bond, can we at least have an official announcement of DC leaving? So many people here are talking as if DC has left officially, but nothing's been official yet.

I guess it all depends on how big a star you consider Tom Hiddleston to be {:)

I don't know what his stature is overseas but in the US I don't think he's known for anything except Loki and to a much lesser extent "The Night Manager". The Hank Williams bio he starred in generally played art houses to luke warm reviews and poor box office. I'd say he's a recognizable "B" lister here and that actually fits in with Bond casting. What is great about so many "B" listers from Britain is that many are actually very fine actors with a lot of stage experience unlike so many American "B" listers who are just pretty faces.

Another potential candidate, more classically handsome then Hiddleston but a bit young at the moment.
And how many projects is DC currently attached too? the play, a TV series and a film? whether he quit or not Bond is definitely on the backburner for awhile for him.
What EON should do is make a deal with Christopher Nolan to make the next film and give him complete control. With Nolan on board, EON/MGM would have no problem getting a distributor.
But I doubt that they will do that.
I'm not a huge Nolan fan but I think he's a talented director who could give the franchise a boost post-Craig.
