"I am not an entrant in the Shakespeare Stakes." - Ian Fleming
"Screw 'em." - Daniel Craig, The Best James Bond EverTM
Perfect scenario, all confirmed that DC leaves and TH is cast by next month, 6 months getting great story, locations and rest of cast ( ahem.. Idris for main Villian) start filming January for November release next year. Won't happen though )
Finally, someone else who sees that Idris Elba would make one of the best villains! Could you imagine him as a Spectre agent?
Hiddleston seems like a good choice--good looks, good height, good acting ability. My biggest problem is that, at 35, I consider him a little too old. Bond should be, ideally, about 40. But they're not picking a Bond for one movie, but many. Since EON takes such a long time to get these movies done, I'd prefer they start with a 30-year-old and let him have the role until he's almost 50. We'd have more time for the long character-arc stories that EON now prefers, with quirky personal-history tidbits peculiar to that particular Bond (a la Craig).
As far as the distributor situation goes, if EON secured a new Bond, then they could pay him chump change and have more to share with the distributor. Craig costs a lot, and he's now a producer, so he could try to exercise more control on the next one than Broccoli would be happy with. (I don't think M. Wilson is a factor much anymore...I think he's about to retire.)
Basically, it's as Cubby always said--the audience is there to see Bond. Whoever EON says Bond is, that's who people will come to see. (Lazenby and Dalton are arguable exceptions to this rule.)
One more point...if EON doesn't see any British actors in their late 20s/early 30s that look promising, they might as well lock up Hiddleston now. For if Craig does one more then Hiddleston may be unavailable when they finally decide to hire him. This is a lot like the situation with Brosnan. He could have done one more, no problem. But, to my best information, he was getting too expensive and too opinionated, so EON decided to embrace Craig and do something totally different. Hiddleston wouldn't be as innovative, but he'd be a guarantee of continued quality.
I've been pretty clear that I wouldn't have a problem with Hiddelston but I just have this sneaking feeling that Hiddelston may be the Clive Owen of this Bond casting call...sometimes when things are just too obvious they just are. Maybe with the help of an all too willing internet we have created our own smoke and mirrors. Nothing would surprise me at this point. Hiddelston, Craig returning, Fassbender, Turner, a CGI version of Connery or someone not on the radar screen at all.
My two predictions:
1) I'm going with summer or autumn 2017 for any announcement of a new Bond actor. MGM haven't got a distribution deal for Bond 25 nor a working script. There's zero reason to announce Tom Hiddleston or whoever. The media is milking this story - the next Bond actor is? - when there is no immediate story. It's part of the James Bond publicity machine. No casting decision until next year - and that's assuming Craig won't come back. If Craig has 12 months or so to decide, he can change his mind.
2) If Craig doesn't come back (and my gut feeling is he won't) the next Bond actor won't be Dan Stevens, Idris Elba, Jamie Bell, Tom Hiddleston, Aiden Turner. I think it will be someone else. A name few or no-one has mentioned.

Sometimes I get the feeling we're more concerned about all this than EON. They could sell their whole stake in Bond tomorrow to Sony, Warners, Fox, etc and have wealth for generations to come. I don't believe that will happen because Barbara Brocolli probably feels strongly that she must carry on her father's legacy. All these studios want to get their hands on a cash cow francise. Nothing has stood the test of time like Bond. As much as some here like to slag EON (and they have had their ups and downs) I shudder to think what might happen to Bond in the wrong hands.
Film: Tomorrow Never Dies | Girl: Teresa di Vicenzo | Villain: Max Zorin | Car: Aston Martin Volante | Novel: You Only Live Twice | Bond: Sir Sean Connery
Sam Mendes says in an interview that he won't return to direct another Bond (not the first time he's said it ...) and the next Bond won't be who people think. Mendes also said Barbra Broccoli will decide. I'm guessing this means a Tom Hardy/Charlie Hunnan type actor will get the role .... :v
What an absolute bunch of snooty (and ill-informed) garbage that "article" was. I just love those "Oh just kill him off because that silly Bond is just so yesterday" even though the films are just as popular as ever and the general public keeps coming back in droves for more Bond. James Bond is a freaking international cinematic icon. He's like Santa Clause, except he only comes around every 3-4 years and in the fall. -{
I'm sorry, but what idiot with a single brain cell would kill off Bond now? Skyfall grossed over a billion dollars, as the highest grossing Bond film. And look at Spectre - sure, may not have done as well as Skyfall, but it was one of the highest grossing films of the year.
Top-10 Worldwide Bond Gross (adjusted based on 2015 US$ = $1.00). The second number ranks the bond films in unadjusted gross in US$. Note, yes Spectre 'only' grossed $880 K, but the share of the US box office fell to a historic low of only 22.7%. These numbers do not take in the account the number of screens. Moonraker could have been the all time grosser if the geo-political situation of the world had been different in 1979.
