After seeing the recent trailer for Kong:Skull island I must admit Hiddleston was looking pretty rugged but I'm still on the fence about him as a potential Bond.
Seeing how Hiddleston looks in the Kong trailer it may serve the franchise better to follow Craig with a taller, lankier but still rugged looking actor like Hiddleston rather than another shorter, stocky type who could fall victim to being compared too much to Craig, who despite his out of the box non-traditional appearance had the chops and "it" factor to pull it off.

Craig is an anomaly in that regard and a risk that paid off. I think whoever's chosen next will definitely be more in line height wise with the perceived image of Bond as a man who is 6ft and above.

It may seem like an oversimplification, but I believe there is some real validity to this. Hiddleston checks off all the boxes but in a way that EON sees them. Hiddleston is handsome, but has a unique look that separates him from the cookie cutter pretty boy fake macho model types we see on perfume adverts. It also appears he actually is improving with maturity and age and growing into his looks which would bode well for a long run as Bond. He lost 20 lbs, mastered a Southwestern drawl, and took singing lessons (he actually sings in the film) to play Hank Williams which means he will bust his butt in DeNiro-like fashion to give the best performance he can as Bond: which means he will hit the weights, learn to use firearms properly, learn to fight like we expect Bond to fight (he's reputed to be an excellent dancer which will only help) and do whatever else it takes to become Bond. He has a great rep in the business professionally and with the media and public (EON likes team players); and finally, he's actually a good actor with some range who more than likely sees playing Bond as a career maker and not a trap and is young enough to have plenty of mileage left to have a good post Bond career.
I remember back in 2005-06 when many of us thought it was a forgone conclusion that Clive Owen would be the next Bond, so I'm far from sure Hiddleston will get the role.

I feel similarly. It's almost as he's too obvious, that Mendes comment about the unexpected keeps popping up in my head. I agree with the comment that Daniel was a risk that paid off in bucket loads but am concerned about the likelihood of a curve ball paying off twice. So, in summary if EON play safe it will be Hiddleston or Turner, if not who knows.it boils down to how much we trust Babs. Daniel was the first Bond not chosen or at least endorsed by Brocolli snr so we only have one instance to go on.

That's a good point. There are some parallels betgween the two. Many of us (myself included) were advocating for Clive Owen from the time we saw him in a tux in the film Croupier with the BMW advert mini-films putting it over the top. Apparently there is some real question as to whether Owen had even been a serious contender for the role to begin with. Whether or not Hiddleston is ultimately cast I do believe that at minimum he is truly under consideration for the role. Unless Craig actually ends up returning, I'm not sure what type of "curve ball" EON could throw at us. It was one thing casting a less than obvious Craig as EON knew it was time to shake things up but you can only push things so far and timing is everything.

With regard to Clive Owen...I think many of us imagined he could be a good Bond, but I (for one) never saw his casting as a foregone conclusion. I believe that Mendes was in full disinformation mode---Naomie Harris: 'I'm not Moneypenny' and Christoph Waltz: 'I'm not Blofeld'---when he talked about the next Bond being unexpected.
However, that being said, I can tell you that many, many Bond fans on FB are NOT expecting Tom Hiddleston to actually get the part...

Time has proven that wasn't a foregone conclusion, but it seemed like it. During that time (2004 or 05?) regarding Clive Owen in close negotiations for the role, we did have that EON insider posting day-by-day updates on the casting process; for the most part I believed (and still do) that he was legit, that this guy was some sort of staffer with EON casting director Debbie McWilliams. It was just that Barbara Broccoli had something up her sleeve with procurement for Daniel Craig taking place on the side, while negotiations that might have been taking place with Owens likely fell through or were reneged like what they did with John Gavin's casting for DAF.

It's not over until it's over, as they say. If I had to bet, I'd put money on Hiddleston based on the available information. But things can change quickly. For instance, if Daniel Craig decided that he wanted to return, one could envision EON setting fire to any agreement with any other actor.

I was pretty new to AJB then, so I probably just wasn't aware of the 'insider' posts of that time, and so was never that convinced that Owen was next in line. It's certainly worth remembering that nothing's certain until it's announced.
But for now I'm sticking with my 98.5% 'certainty' that Hiddleston is 'it' ;% If it turns out otherwise, history will have repeated itself -{

These type of situations tend to remain fluid. I don't think you can dismiss anything remotely reasonable at this point. Craig returning, Hiddleston, Turner, someone that hasn't even been part of the discussion yet or even a longshot "name" like Michael Fassbender. I just have a gut feeling that if Craig does not return it's Hiddleston based upon EON not being comfortable going with a complete unknown following Craig.
Here is a recent interview with Hiddleston. It's not brand new, so if it's already been posted here, I apologize. There is the obligatory question about Bond which does not reveal anything new, but I found the rest of the piece interesting.
Gonna throw a new name in the hat for Bond. I'm not sure if he has been mentioned yet but Ben Robson from The Vikings and the US TV adaptation of Animal Kingdom. He's around 32, 6'3", and English. Can do action, good actor, has the looks and with the right haircut and wardrobe would look the part.
I haven't seen him in anything yet. I follow Vikings, but I haven't seen this season. From what I can google he looks like a good candidate :007)
I haven't seen Vikings myself (have to get around to it I've heard it's good).
It just dawned on me watching Animal Kingdom that he is actually not American but British born and raised. Ironically, in both series he portrays very "un-Bondlike" characters and has long hair and a beard. In "Animal Kingdom" he portrays a coke snorting, bank robber / Southern California surfer dude. But under all the hair and fake tattoos may be James Bond.
Nothing new here. The fact that Jack Huston once did a play that was produced by Barbara Broccoli automatically makes him a Bond candidate in the news media. There are also some insinuations that EON is angry with Craig over his wrist slashing comment and are glad to be rid of him which flies in the face of the likely scenario of EON wanting Craig back......very badly. The "not making a casting decision until a new distributor is on board" is probably the opposite of reality. More than likely most potential new partners are waiting for news as to whether Craig will be back or a casting decision on his replacement -{ before they make their best offer.

If this is true:
“Producers think that ungracious comment, right before the release of Spectre, cost them tens of millions at the box office. They’re ready to forget about Daniel.”
then it's very unlikely Craig will return. Recasting will save EON and the studio millions of dollars. Daniel Craig was Barbara Broccoli's choice, she was determined to want him, but if she's 'over him' then I can't see any reason why she'd want him back. I suppose if the other candidates were not that inspiring Craig could tempted back but there's enough actors out there, there must be a few with potential!
So much bull still going around about that out of context comment in my opinon. At the Premier Babs and Michael gushing over DC and said they wanted to keep him.
The media knows about as much as we do (well less actually)
