Memorable Cinema Audience Reactions to the James Bond Films?

I'm creating this thread to see if any members here have any memorable cinema audience reactions to the James Bond films from Dr. No (1962) to Spectre (2015)?

The only one that firmly sticks in my mind is the audience laughing at the jokes at the end of TWINE but then again I've only seen Bond films in the cinema since TND. :))

This is the place to share your memories! I look forward to hearing them! :) -{

Not the "I never thought I'd have Christmas in Turkey..." line. Mouths dropped open all over the cinema

    Any opinions. Well, yes

I seem to remember the climax of The Living Daylights letting out a gasp as Bond/Necros slid out into the void

Both times I saw Skyfall, of course, there was a surge of electricity that ran through the audience when Bond unveils the DB5.

    Awesome moment.
    Yes. Consssssiderably.

Cheers as the DB5 is revealed in SF.
Applause at the ski jump in TSWLM.
Terrified noises from male audience members (pun not intended) at the torture scene in CR06.
Cheers when Connery says "Bond, James Bond" when he's revealed in the DAF PTS (yes, I remember this! I'm old).

When Bond caught up with the plane in the GE PTS, an elderly lady near me said, "Loco!"

People were so pumped after Casino Royale they actually talked to other people on the way out of the cinema. Generally saying "Bond is back."

SP - A lot of laughing and people having a good time. Especially on the "C" line.

I was blown away as a 12 year old, seeing Die Another Day for the first time. There was lots of laughing during Moneypenny's VR scene!

I can remember seeing the Skyfall trailer for the first time and there was a huge laugh/cheer when Bond drops into the train and adjusts his cuffs. That moment got the same reaction on opening night.

The first Bond I saw in the theater was For Your Eyes Only. In those days, as a kid, I didn't think I needed to go to the theater for them since they were always shown on TV.

What I recall is a general sense of disappointment. People liked the movie but not with the gusto they thought they would. Bond was a still spectacular in those days -- Moonraker and The Spy Who Loved Me. For Your Eyes Only was, more or less, a let down. It wasn't a total failure. People laughed in the right parts, such as the pre-titles sequence and the gags with Thatcher and her husband. The song was a big hit. My friend's dad took us to McDonalds afterward, and it was obvious he thought it was crap, though.

There were the same general reactions for Octopussy and A View to a Kill. People were very excited at the stunts -- the little airplane in the pre-titles sequence, for instance -- but there were groans and even some laughter when Moore jumps down onto an elevator on the Eiffel Tower.

People had a similar reaction to The Living Daylights as they had For Your Eyes Only. I even saw the Dalton film again in college at the student union. The fans were a little more boisterous, but one middle-aged fellow, who apparently was English, said to us that he enjoyed the film but couldn't really accept Dalton as Bond.

The reaction to Licence to Kill was even more subdued. I recall people saying it was just a Miami Vice episode, and they didn't like the weird mixture of fantasy and violence in a Bond film.

I actually sank down in my chair during Goldeneye when Brosnan "flies" to catch up with the falling plane because people were laughing at the scene rather than being thrilled by it. The general reaction to the film was better than the others I'd seen in the theater, though.

I recall people clapping when Brosnan appears as Bond in the pre-titles sequence of Tomorrow Never Dies. In general, the audience seemed more engaged than the one I had seen Goldeneye with. I don't recall much about the audience reaction to The World is Not Enough, so it must not have been anything remarkable, but I do recall groans and ridicule at the invisible car and Bond's CGI iceboat or whatever in Die Another Day. People also were somewhat enthusiastic when Madonna showed up.

It wasn't until Casino Royale that I was in a packed theater where people seemed both happy and boisterous about a Bond film. That was good because when they'd shown a teaser trailer a few months earlier, the audience had laughed derisively when Craig was shown at the end as Bond. But they were very happy and excited leaving the theater.

Not so much so in Quantum of Solace. It was another experience where the audience seemed subdued and then let down when leaving. It was pretty obvious they thought it was inferior to the previous Bond film.

They were excited again for Skyfall, though some people, like me, let shaking our heads and talked about the illogic of the story.

I saw Spectre with my girlfriend during sneak preview night. We were in the equivalent to an IMAX theater, and there were, maybe, 10 people in it. We were the loudest of anyone and both enjoyed it.

The water ski stunt in Licence brought a HUGE applause as did the wheelie during the tanker chase. Considering the cinema wasn't quite full for LTK, and at the time it wasn't exactly the most popular Bond film, I vividly recall the crowds being very vocal.
Cheers during the gunbarrel for GoldenEye as well as DAD (the dots, not the bullet) .
Cheers and laughter in the cello chase in Daylights, as well as the Ghetto Blaster bit.

Chuckling during the plane shots in GF (re-release circa 1974).
'OOOOOOHHHHH's when Vargas got it in TB (re-release circa 1974).
Hushed silence when Connery swung out under the Whyte House in DAF.
Big LOL when Mr. Big cut Bond off with "Names is for tombstones..." in LALD.
Gigantic LOL when Bond kicked that guy in the face at Hi Fat's in TMWTGG.
Audible laughs when Bond kicked Locque's car in FYEO.
Audible laughs when Bond mentioned M's 'tricky day' in SP.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Cheers and applause as JB flies into the air with the jet pack in TB and roars of laughter later on as he says " I think he got the point" when he skewers Vargas with the harpoon gun.

Wolf whistles and hoots of laughter as Wint and Kidd hold hands after a kill in DAF.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

I took that moment pretty seriously and didn't laugh, but it was at a theatre that regularly played violent kung-fu & blacksploitation films so the audience was always a bit off the hook. :))

Another memorable reaction was mine during Spectre..... and unfortunately mine alone. :))

After the MGM logo we finally see a Daniel Craig gunbarrel opening! I applauded! Hard!

But stopped quickly after nobody else did.

(In all fairness, it was a matinee theater on a Sunday night in January....)

I remember when seeing TWINE and DAD, people applauded when the gunbarrel came on. And people didn't in Spectre because they probably didn't know what it was anymore. The lack of audience reaction then made me sad. :(

Easily my best one was SPECTRE.

Pre premiere night, Imax in Holland, a room filled to the Bone with Bond fans!
Once the gunbarrel came, there was a amazing applause and cheering! - I had goosebumps everywhere! What an expierence! I think I can never look at that gunbarrel again without that memory!

Just a quick word about 1981. The much derided Thatcher bit at the end got big laughs

There was much piss taking of Thatch in those days - and it provided everyone with a big giggle when they left the cinema...

Takes me back to being at an Elton John concert many years ago- when he did "Bennie & The Jets" my friend and I were the only ones to leap to our feet, punch our hands in the air and yell "Bennie!" at the audience participation bit. No-one else in our section did.... ;%

I've just posted a similar comment in the Tributes thread, but I think it belongs here as well:

That moment when the volcano set is first revealed in YOLT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dnaorqo6krg if it's seen as it was meant to be seen, on a big screen with a large audience, never failed to impress. We as Bond fans have spent years watching it on our home screens and have grown somewhat used to it but back in the day it was "the money shot", the drop dead moment, whatever you want to call it, and CGI however well-done can't compare.
The tanker set in TSWLM of course had a similar effect. RIP, Sir Ken.

At the beginning of Spectre, there was laughter and a few comments of "cool" when Bond jumps out of the hotel window, walks along the ledge and adjusts his cufflinks "a la Skyfall train scene" :)

One of my favourite audience reaction moments was when I watched SPECTRE at the Cape Town IMAX on opening night. The reaction of audience to line "It's only a matter of time before the South Africans to see the light" was one of much laughter, as was the shot on the news report of Cape Town burning following a bomb blast. This reaction was quite unique, and you wouldn't have got that in any other country, which I thought was fun to experience.

As it happens, South Africa has been experiencing an energy crisis in the last few years and for much of 2015 we were subjected to 'load shedding' - rolling blackouts in order to reduce the load on the national grid. And this meant that if you went to the cinema to see a film there was always a fairly good chance that the power would be cut off mid film, and that would be the end of your movie watching experience for the night. So the 'see the light' remark also carried some added irony for South African viewers. Luckily, by November load-shedding had been indefinitely suspended and screenings of SPECTRE were not prematurely cut-off by the electricity company.
