Best Bond Girl name for a baby daughter

cheldcheld Posts: 300MI6 Agent
Half-fun, half-serious....

Wife & I are expecting our first child - a daughter - in a couple of weeks. We think we're going to use my mother's name as a middle name, but we don't have a clear frontrunner for a first name. My surname is Germanic and one syllable so it's been hard to come up with name combinations that sound "right".

Has anyone named their daughter after a Bond Girl, or ever thought that a Bond Girl name would make a good name for a "real life" little one? I will tell you that "Madeleine" is actually on our short list, but "Jinx" and "Plenty" are not :)) ....

What about Honey? After Honey Ryder.

Most of the Bond girls aren't anything I would want my future to be like. The Man with the Golden Gun ruined the name Mary. The strongest and most honourable Bond women have realistic names, like Anya, Holly and Madeline.

I certainly wouldn't go for Christmas or Pussy! :))

But I guess there are lots of realistic ones to go for.
Jill, Tilly, Fiona, Tracy, Tiffany, Rosie, Naomi, Melina, Stacey, Kara, Pam, Natalya, Paris, Miranda, Camile...

Or maybe a bit more in between like Vesper, Severine or Tatiana!

Tatiana is a very realistic name, and I've known many. I'm sitting in an office with a Tatiana right now. I don't think Vesper and Severine are good characters to name a child after. Vesper is a liar and a cheat, whilst Severine is a prostitute.

    Tiffany sounds a lovely name.

    What about Irma?! :))

Joking aside, Ilse is a good name too.

    Tiffany sounds a lovely name.

Certainly better than Van Cleef and Arpels :D

I'd consider Tatiana as well. Maybe Dominique or if you prefer the novel's Dominetta. Tiffany, Melina, Holly, Magda, and Kara are all nice names IMO.

Melina would be my choice. And congratulations! {[]

Can you share your surname with us? I guess it needs to be something which works well with that.

I guess if it's Brandt, for the true Bond homage you may want to consider Helga :D

    Bibi Brandt? :))

May I suggest (but feel free to tell me to shut up) looking at names of the Bond girl actresses as well? Some of these might be good names too, and perhaps a bit more subtle than some of the Bond girl names: Eva (Green), Rosamund (Pike), Naomie (Harris), Sophie (Marceau), Gemma (Arterton), Lois (Maxwell & Chiles), Michelle (Yeoh), Kristina (Wayborn), Caterina (Murino). Then the not-so-subtle ones: Claudine (Auger), Luciana (Paluzzi), Daniela (Bianchi), Izabella (Scorupco).

    Congratulations on the coming arrival, and whatever name you decide, make sure to tell us! -{

I'd go a different route. Instead of naming after the character name, name her after the actress who played the character. Helga Brandt was played by Karin For, so one name could be Karin. Just pick your favorite Bond girl and name your future daughter after the actress.

I've always liked Natalya, Paris and Dominique, but if you wanted something a little more unusual, Ruby and Elektra are pretty names.

As a new father I wouldn't go for Elektra.....

I was destined to never have a girl...but if I ever had, it would have been Bram Stoker-inspired: Mina. With a last name like Loeffelholz, one must be careful ;) I kept it short for each of my two sons (Ian and Alec) for that reason.

As for Bond characters, I rather like Teresa (or Tracy). Fleming doesn't present many few-syllable options to go along with my surname. From the films: Kara, Paris...or Anya. None of which are any more jarring than the Scot/Brit names I matched up with the extremely German last name ;%

I believe there was Judy (Havelock), and of course, Rosa, but I'd kick that one (pun absolutely intended).

Update... our daughter was born on Tuesday afternoon and we indeed named her Madeleine, though not necessarily for the Bond connection. Thanks to all for participating, now I need to get some sleep. :))
