Choice of leather for the Wested skyfall leather jacket

I have an original Menlo jacket in size S but it too fitted and bit short for me so I'm look for an affordable alternative. I searched the forum and found Wested jacket seesms like a solid choice so I decided to pull the trigger.

When I go to their website, I found 3 choices of leather for the jacket: Italian Rosetta, shrunken lambskin and Pre-distressed heavy duty lamb. It seems like a no brainer but after I read the leather guide here:http://wested.com/ekmps/shops/westedcom/resources/Other/leather-guide.pdf I think the pre-distress lamb doesn't quite have the same texture as the origianl one.

As the owner of the Wested jacket, which one will you recommend in terms of screen accuracy? Some close up photos will be much appreciated! Thank you! :))

I believe sheepskin is probably the most accurate, but they don't use it on jackets other then two flight jackets. Your next best would be the shrunken lamb or the Soft Italian Lambskin (ask if they will use it for the Skyfall).

Really none of them are even close. As you have the original, you know it's super thin yet with a unique chemical distressing technique applied.

Having been to Westead the only advice can be to visit yourself. You then get real made to measure and can look through their vast array of hides and choose your own. I also concur that my Westead, although a beautiful jacket, is not similar to the Menlo at all, it is in the style of the Menlo. They are really helpful and excel in customer service at Westead.

I am also considering buying the Wested jacket. I have absolutely no clue about leather though. I've owned just one leather jacket in my life and all I could tell you about it was that it was black. :))

Looking at that PDF, I'd say the best bet would be either the Shrunken Lambskin or the Pre-Distressed Heavy-Duty Lambskin. The Italian Rosetta looks off to me. Almost red and far too 'perfect' looking. I'd imagine it would take a lot of work to get that looking like the SA version in terms of distressing it yourself. It says that the Shrunken Lamb does have a subtle natural distressing so perhaps that might be closer?

Regardless of how close they are to the original Levi, I've heard nothing but great things about the quality and fit of Wested jackets so to have one of them in a similar style to the 'enjoying death' would be great. Just a bit on the fence about the leather type like you.

Same here, I don't have any leather jacket until I got the levi menlo, then I just completly fall in love with it. I have pulled the trigger on the pre-distressed lamb after a few email with their staff. Their staff has been very helpful by the way.

Here's a actual pic of the rosetta

Wow, the Rosetta looks quite different to the picture on their website. Much darker and more 'weathered' looking. A lot less red.. Thanks very much for sharing the pictures. Did you get a picture of the pre-distressed?

I'm now even less decided than before. :))

Anyone else on here got one?

True, those actual photos look way better than the samples. I love the texture of the shrunken lamb and the look of the rosetta lamb is also very SA. However I went with the heavy duty pre-distressed lamb because the Wested staff said they received a lot of customer feedbacks and the pre-distressed leather received the most compliments. Also lambskin is not known for its longevity so by going heavy duty I believe it will last longer than the others.

Anyone got more pictures of the different leather types? I can't decide which one looks more SA.. from these photos posted it seems like it's the Rosetta one

So there's this article on Wested's blog from forever ago where they compared skins

Seeing the pictures posted here I'd say pre distressed lamb and Rosetta are the best ones.

I actually owned one of the Wested Menlos until I picked up the real deal. I went for lamb undistressed I really liked the soft feel - see below. I was going to best it up myself but actually thought I would just let life do it over time.

Fortunately for me not too far away so I was able to pop in only issue I had was they changed the sizing after I tried it on the sample, so initially I got one size up.

Great team though sorted it right out.

    Cheers :007)
