Honestly, Craig doing all the physical stuff is a problem in the scripting and direction. Sure, it sets him apart from the other Bonds, but Bond isn't an energiser bunny. It was refreshing in SF and SP to return to a Bond that doesn't hop, skip and jump as much as the "Bond" in CR and to a lesser extent, QOS.

{[] Yes, SP especially. For ME.
SP was certainly the easiest Bond film physically for Craig, both in the action and in the preparation before filming. Craig didn't have to work up his body to the previous levels since he had no shirtless scenes. Though SP was by far the least physically demanding of Craig's Bond films, the long shooting schedule still made it difficult enough for Craig to complain more than he had previously. Craig himself has partially put it into my head that he's too old for the role, when I was fine with Moore's age at 55 in Octopussy.
I'll agree SP probably was the most laid back entry for Craig in terms of action. I'd argue with maybe the exception of the crane sequence in CR, the Craig Bonds aren't quite as stunt oriented as, say the Dalton films or later Moores. He runs around a lot but you never see him water ski behind a plane, climb a the side of a cliff and then get kicked off once he reaches the top, pop wheelies with supertankers, get thrown out of planes without a parachute, and so forth. When he does it's obviously CGI in front of a green screen like the parachute bit in QoS. Doesn't exactly take my breath away like the Rick Sylvester ski jump does every time I see it. The fight with Hinx was fairly slick, but I'd say that's down to editing styles-same with the OHMSS style fight in the hotel in Quantum. The closest Craig's got so far to a Moore/Dalton style action scene might have been the rooftop train fight a'la Otopussy in Skyfall.
I'll also add I do find Moore very convincing while clinging to the side of the train at 55. Wearing slip-ons as well.
I can't see Daniel's age being an issue. I'm the same age and you do pick up more niggles when training hard but can still do the same things someone a few years younger can do.
I don't think it's just a question of whether he still looks all right or is well preserved; the ageing process from Casino Royale to Spectre is quite notable. Do we really want to see Bond getting older? Saying that though I think Skyfall put that idea into people's minds so we couldn't suspend disbelief about Bond's age.
Even if he is well preserved, there will be a point where it won't look appropriate to have him seducing girls in their twenties. If they cast age-appropriate actresses it wouldn't be an issue but I think invariably they will want to cast young glamorous women.

It all moves in cycles; we've been here before, of course, with Sir Roger in the early-mid '80s. Craig's age wouldn't be the issue if he were to return, IMO, but rather his enthusiasm for the project (which we've heard is simply not there).

I have got nothing against an older Bond in principle, in fact it could be a great way to say farewell to an actor before the next recasting. It could also open up some interesting new dynamics.it need not be anything like the embarrassing AVTAK. As far as casting glamorous women they would need to be 'age appropriate ' which is what I hoped we were getting with Spectre, but alas if you blinked you missed her (still that one shot of her in her lingerie was by far the sexist thing in the film. As long as the hoary old ' I'm getting too old for this **** ' was avoided all would be well. One of my slight concerns in the reboot era is that Bond is a bit too much of an indestructible super hero, I'd like to see him struggle more and win out by smarts and cunning (as well as still being able to convincingly engage in fisticuffs)

If any Bond is an indestructible superhero, that would have to be Brosnan. I'd say Craig is the least Superman-type of all the Bond. He struggles the most. I think he's physically the most believable Bond. SP brought back more of the superhero Bond, but before that he's the least of that type.

I have heard similar arguments but feel differently. For me the Craig era has lacked struggle physically, Bond rarely seems out of his depth and in real danger. Even in Spectre the Train fight was bone crunching, and came closet to that 'oh God he may not win this' moment, but nowhere near Oddjob, or Red Grant, or 006 in GE for that matter. I think if anything Daniel seems almost too competent, too proficient in Martial Arts, and dare I say it too fit. For me Bond is fit, tough and tenacious, but not a top flight expert in anything, with the possible exception of Marksmanship and Driving. I appreciate that this is not a widely shared view. We see Brosnan after physical injury but Craig survives being shot and falling from a great height. He crashes through walls without incident. That said the opening fight in CR is amongst the very best and the psychological aftermath is superb. CR hit this best, but afterwards never for me at least found the right balance. Oh well, each to his own.

Good point. Fleming's Bond swam, did 20 push ups, leg lifts, breathing exercises and stretches. I can do that. I think he intended Bond's physique to be a bit like his own when he was at his peak. He's not ripped like Craig and certainly doesn't spend hours in a gym with a personal trainer. Connery up thru TB had the right build IMO.
Exactly, like Bruce Lee. In clothes he looked lanky, but when he took his shirt off in a fight

Connery was a former body builder and even finished 3rd in the 1953 Mr. Universe. By the standards of the early Sixties, he was considered heavily muscled.

After reading the novels I thought he was about right in his first three movies, and began looking a little too heavy (not fat) in TB. But that's from a present perspective.
Those were the times... Connery was heavily muscled, but in a natural way. Now it's all growth hormone and steroids, but still no-one looks so well-proportioned as Connery did.
