The title - ideas and rumours

What to do here? - just look at the title :007)

I have an idea:
Cerberus is a name from Greek mythology for the the "hound of Hades". It's a monstrous multi-headed dog who guards the gates of the underworld, preventing the dead from leaving. Kerberos is the Greek form of the word.
It could be the name of a new villan organisation, each branch or member being one of the heads of the hound. The title can actually be used as a title if the Garden of Death story is used, since Cerberus/Kerberos prevents the dead from leaving.

Cerberus was mentioned many years ago, rumoured to be the next Bond title (can't remember the year)...was all a big hoax though...

I still don't understand why that title hasn't been used. It could be the name of an operation, or really anything else if some thought is put into it.

I agree Matt, it's such a versatile word. And, being Italian for 'risk' it could even just be the word itself if part of the plot took place in Italy.

I read a rumour ( That's all it is ) that MG Wilson hates it as a title ? Anyone know if that's true.

Never heard that TP, but it would make sense given that it's the last remaining Fleming title that would work rather easily. Maybe it's just that EON don't want to take the risico on it. Get it? Risico? I'll get me hat...

It is odd, as I agree with everyone that it's the best of what's left and perfectly
usable. POAL is fine but a little bland, THR could be used, with 007 in NY I guess
will never get used. Or its original title tweaked a bit.

I'm torn because to my English-speaking ear it sounds great as a title, but it also means "risk" in German and somehow a Bond film title shouldn't just be an everyday word (or be associated with a board game). I know we're not a world language but it may apply to other languages as well, I don't know.

Spectre is also a regular word, but because it had multiple meanings it worked (though it gave spoiled SPECTRE and Blofeld's returns). Risico would be similar.

True, almost forgot that about Spectre. Coming to think of it I'm glad they didn't translate it like they used to (and then the acronym didn't make sense...)

Nothing wrong with an acronym I always had a soft spot for .. THRUSH !

Although they did change it to FIFA,. I think ;)

Let's just hope that they will never call a Bond movie "James Bond".

You know - like Rocky Balboa, John Rambo or most recently - JASON BOURNE. 8-)

On the other hand that title would make sense if they would make a movie about Bond's youth - a deep origin story starting from the death of his parents. I actually would be pleased with a title like that.

No more one-word titles! It should be a mouthful with "Die", "Death" or "Kill" in there. :))

Having used Quantum of Solace I see absolutely no reason why they couldn't use Risico.

As I've said, they should use all 4 remaining Fleming titles, they are nearly there so why not finish off when so close?!

007 in New York would have to be changed though. Something with New York in the title. Agent in New York perhaps.

Risico would be a nice one for them to save until last. Plus, with Skyfall and Spectre, I couldn't take a 3rd one-worder in a row.

My chosen title as I've said before is "The Garden Of Death". It's never been a title, but it would be the coolest sounding title in a long time for me.

Always thought Risico could make an awesome villain name, or a plot device like Thunderball.

If they do make a Spectre trilogy, after 'Spectre', I've had this idea of the second film being called 'Blofeld' and the third being called 'Garden of Death' or 'Shatterhand' (preferably Shatterhand).

I'm suprised the word Shadow hasn't been used in a title yet, maybe if a main character gets killed in a film (e.g if Madelaine was killed at the start of Bond 25) I think 'Shadow of Death' would be good.

I also think some John Gardner titles could be used, such as 'Icebreaker' or 'For Special Services'.

Risico aside IMO none of the remaining titles are suitable for films. I agree that some JG titles could be successfully used.

I honestly think they could all be used. Quantum Of Solace was used.

There is only 4 left. May aswell! That's the completionist in me though

Risico is def the best to use. Maybe it would have been cool as a project name instead of nine eyes.

007 in New York is a shocker I would not want to see
Property of a lady has already been used in Octopussy (I would find it bland as a film title)
Hildebrand has already just been used in SPECTRE so wouldn't really work either

I like both Risico and Property of a Lady. I also like A Whisper of Hate, a shortened version of a chapter title from CR.
It would be nice if they used For Special Services, technically it's Fleming too.

I like the title Blood on the Snow. Now it's a title of a Jo Nesbø novel, so it might not work.
What do you think of Blood on White Snow?
  • HardyboyHardyboy Posts: 5,912Chief of Staff
I've always liked the "motto" of Casino Royale, "A Whisper of Love, A Whisper of Hate;" and although it has the much-overused word "death," I think one of the chapter titles of Diamonds Are Forever has a nice ring to it: "Death Is So Permanent."

Titles that reference other Bond things would be nice.

I think 'All the time in the world' would be good, for a movie focused around the Bond girl.

But If Blood on Snow isn't a copyrighted title yet, would it be a good Bond title?

It's kind of astounding to me that The Property of a Lady hasn't been used yet. It's definitely my number one pick for unused Fleming titles. Risico is cool, but I think there are better potential titles from the pages of Fleming, like Shatterhand, The Garden of Death or The Undertakers Wind.

Another title I would like is Bedlam. If the next film were a continuation of the Craig era timeline, you could have MI6 initiate Operation Bedlam (originating from OHMSS) to hunt down the remaining SPECTRE affiliates

I read a rumour ( That's all it is ) that MG Wilson hates it as a title ? Anyone know if that's true.

Seems as though Babs is in control of Bond (going by interviews with Mendes and Craig), so I don't see why MGW not liking it would have an effect.

Risico is a great title. I think it, along with POAL and THR, should be used at some point.

Not to mention, "Sherlock Holmes", "Star Trek", "Robin Hood", "The Muppets", etc etc .
This seems to be a trend in lazy, unoriginal titles- yet it also seems to be accepted. I'm rather baffled that on forums and boards I've seen very little mention of the new Bourne title. Doesn't seem to bother too many people that it's just called "Jason Bourne" when the other films had snappier titles. If Eon ever did get so lazy to call a future film "James Bond", I'd be pi$$ed, yet I feel I'd probably be one of the few who would find that as a title completely unacceptable. It would be different if this were the first film of a series and the audience never heard of the character -like "Dirty Harry", or a remake of a classic like "Dracula", but Bond? No. 007 deserves the respect of each new film being given an individual and Bondian title.
