Remember the rumors in 2007/2008 that they were panicking on the title and were thinking of a last-minute switch to "007."
If our current literal-mindedness as an audience continues, and/or worsens by the time Gregg Wilson takes over the franchise, we can probably look forward to "James Bond is a code name" becoming canon, and "007" or "James Bond" being a film title that makes the flimsiest bit of sense.
They have already used "The World Is Not Enough" and it's a phrase from the pen of Fleming.
I suggested this as a title on these boards a couple of years ago and was met with, "Nah--too long, too complicated, people won't understand it," etc., etc. Glad to see I'm not alone in liking it! {[]
I still think the whole chapter title is too long. "A whisper of love, a whisper of hate"(AWOLAWOH?) is eight words. I think the longest title so far is TMWTGG with six words, But AWOLAWOH has a comma and A Whisper of Love sounds too Barbera Cartland too me. A Whisper of Hate has a sense of threath and mystery to it, and also has the classic Fleming title playfulness to it. Whispers are usually of love and other warm feelings, but here it's about hate.
The phrase is from the works of the economist Adam Smith, the main philosopher and thinker behind capitalism. The theory is that in a free market an "invisible hand" will correct the economy automatically. I think the title sounds Bondian and it fits a modern villan who manipulates the market and and the world in general in a covert way.
Well, The Invisible Hand worked as an episode title in Elementary last year......
Adam Smith's theory as also been called The Hidden Hand. Perhaps that's a better title?
There is a Scandinavian word called "ulvetimen/vargtimen" used about the last hour(s) before dawn when the night is at it darkest and loneliest. A direct translation would be "The Hour of the Wolf".
I rather like it as a movie title, but I'm unsure if it's Bondian. What do you think?
How about 'THE NAME IS BOND, JAMES BOND' ? I think it's bold and obviously iconic - and perhaps the time is right for Bond to get his name into one of the titles at last? It'd probably serve well as a title for either Craigs last Bond movie or the next Actors first Bond movie.
Also does anyone remember in an issue of 007 The Fan Club Magazine around 1991, they gave the name of 5 titles Fleming had planned to use for further books prior to His death. I can remember 3 of them : GOLDENEYE, VIEWFINDER & THE POWERS THAT BE. There were 2 more but for the life of me I cant remember what they were. I think Viewfinder would be cool. Too similar to A View To A Kill though perhaps?

Now I remember Hells Belles was Flemings working title for OHMSS that he discarded coz he needed something a little more classier - obviously he liked the title and planned on using it at a later date. Interesting titles, would any of them work as Bond movie titles do you think?
Thankyou - the point I was making though was that Fleming had a few titles for novels further down the line when he died and that maybe some of the ones mooted would work as the title for Bond 25?

I didn't know about those. Thanks for sharing. "Hell's Belles" would be a great title. Really catchy and memorable. I definitely hope they use that. Also quite like "The Powers That Be". But "Viewfinder" does definitely sound too similar to AVTAK for my liking.
"Hell's Bells" is an AC/DC song, so I don't think it sounds much like a Bond title. As for "Ultragold"--as someone said in another post--that sounds kinda like a superhero comic. "There's no need to fear--Ultragold is here!"
If it's an AC/DC song then that has certainly put me off, lol.

How about if they modified it so its A BRITISH SPY IN NEW YORK or A BRITISH SECRET AGENT IN NEW YORK? Or on a more simple level A SPY IN NEW YORK or A SECRET AGENT IN NEW YORK?.

James Bond isn't really a secret agent or a spy anymore. That was a 1960s concept. Today Bond is an action anti-hero.
John Gardner's novelization of his own screenplay for THE LIQUIDATOR (not the original novel, the novelization of his screenplay based on his novel - confusing I know) has two chapters with titles i've always liked : MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE(S) & WHAT THE EYE(S) CAN'T SEE. I really like either as a title for a Bond movie. The emphasis on the word EYE(S) with the brackets rather than EYE is very Fleming in the sense it has ironic double meaning but a little double entendre in there too. Plus they sound like Bond movie titles more so than Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and SPECTRE did.
I don't mind what the title ends up being, I just really hope, if DC is back for one more, they keep the established Craig era alphabetical order going. The digital copies of CR - SP on my computer and their soundtracks in my iTunes are in a very pleasing correct order and if B25 wrecks that it would probably drive me crazy )
