Hi all, i am toying with the modelisation of GE piton belt.

I recently reopen an old book at home and found a nice "flat" capture of the the GE piton belt.

    IMG-20190809-00012-Copie.jpg

As it is easy to model, I gave it a quick try!
I collected more material online, open my soft, scaled the buckle thanks to picture together with the Piton gun(that has a lot of parts with known dimension) and... voilà!

    WIP-GE-Piton-Belt-1.png WIP-GE-Piton-Belt-2.png

    WIP-GE-piton-render.png

Even if it stays cinema and that probably different belts have been made for the different shots/purposes, with this picture which looks pretty flat, it seems that the piton does not fit in... ?:)
    Size-piton-buckle.jpg

moreover does someone have info or suggestion to attach the rope?

    Looking great so far, guys! -{

'Progress' pics of mine :)) - sadly I forgot to save the ebay sales to pdf, so only have a thumbnail of the belt to show for now:

Mind boggling how difficult it was to find a similar belt strap, but I think this one looks pretty close :s

    Yea I confirm...

According my scaling we should go for a belt 28 or 30mm width.

I found one too, but not the perfect Textured leather. I think that the easiest is to always have an eye open when you are in shops

Hi Ed, really nice ongoing job

Ideally you just have to keep eye open for a belt in textured leather!

Im going to 3d print a prototype for mine, produce the final buckle out of brass and cut the piton in 1.5mm stainless steel

How are you guys doing to attach the rope?

Concealing the wire, I would glue on some thin leather or similar to the back of the belt strap to make a pocket for it. Have the wire running from the pocket into a hole in that curved handle on the back. Put a crimp on this end of the wire so it can't fall through.

Other end of the wire wedges in the back end of the piton- it's the only way it'll fit through the buckle slot. In the film, the piton is fully enclosed inside the buckle, but there's a long slot in the back where either the wire or the handle (or both) slides along. Wire will go through the back of the piton like this:

It contains a lot of shots especially for GE.

    Now comes the question...
Some pics help me on WIP props but there is a type error on the original props.. Basically it means nothing in Russian because they got one letter wrong.

I have confirmed the translation with a Russian colleague, no doubt on it.
By the way, he was nevertheless impressed by the overall Russian Translation in GE. Not prefect but much much better than in many movies.

Back to subject, so I make the props with or without the mistake? I'm tending to let the mistake...

Definitely make it with the mistake. Holly Goodhead's plane ticket has a typo on it, but I left it on because screen accuracy is most important. I tend to think that some of EON's props have deliberate typos to distinguish them from the real-world item.

Just received the most amazing package of replica props from the masterful Henrik ! These pieces are works of art and his attention to detail is staggering. And many of them have a ‘working function’....Henrik goes into painstaking research to make each one of these look as authentic as the original and I am proud to have them in my collection. Thanks, Henrik!!!

For those you looking for the book, Alex refers, obviously, to an Italian edition.
It was also published in Japanese when the EON "archive" was exhibited in Tokyo.
Might also be available in a third language.
Aside from the text, the images are the same in each.
