I've read somewhere that 50% of all americans rely on Facebook only to get their news info and the "trending Topics" function makes sure that they live more and more in their own information-bubble.

Now that is scary. Maybe just me but in my experience people who live their lives through Facebook seem like vacuous socially inept individuals. I think "anti" social media has been terrible for society in the main.
To be honest I find most news reports quite unsatisfactory as well, amazing how reporters hunt out a toothless brain dead redneck to speak about the virtues of Trump and an afro American or Latino to do the same for Clinton, talk about fueling a nations division!!

we recently had some posters in political topics, who 1:1 posted some hair-rising rubbish unresearched and uncommented from social media sites and they seemed quite surprised about not receiving confirmation with their povs.

I suppose if you post some Ill founded diatribe on your Facebook and a few hundred mindless followers hit the like button you get a sense of righteousness. but I would hesitate to post anything on a forum I was not 100 % about, I also cross reference even on bond matters if I'm at all uncertain.
