She was annoying everybody with her "we want our money back" attitude that they surrendered just to shut her up
That woman annoyed on many more levels than just that - an abhorrent woman.
here here , she single handedly destroyed mining towns /communities ect just so she could smash the unions ,now we are buying coal from Germany more costly than our own stuff .Put thousands of miners on the dole ,with now chance of ever getting work again ,then she moaned that the social security bill was sky high ,err hallo .
One of her master strokes, was getting people to buy their homes ! That alone stopped

I thought Trump had the same old right wing policies. Less taxes for the rich, more for the poor.
Cut backs on Government spending like schools and welfare....... All that stuff that has worked so
Well in the past.

Whether we like it or not, we are all children of Thatcher's Britain. She did what needed to be done in the end analysis.
Yeah, systematically destroying the industrial sector was a smart move. Hope that you are enjoying the export deficit ) )
In reality, Thatcher merely destroyed them before they destroyed themselves and put them out of their misery. The UK could ship in coal from Poland cheaper than it cost to produce the same coal in the UK. The Labour governments of Wilson and Callaghan were generously subsiding a dying industry. Clearly, something had to give. They didn't call her 'The Iron Lady' for nothing.

So instead of subsidising the coal industry she threw those people on the scrap heap and ended up paying out more in dole money - and alienating a massive section of the electorate ! A brilliant strategy ! She only retained government because of the Falklands War - that's until her own party ousted her ! A vile woman.
Apologies for derailing the thread.

The 2016 U.S. Election is a race to the bottom...between the Evil of Two Lessers - each a Big Government Progressive; one wearing a cloak of Nationalism, the other wearing the classic 'Blame America First' pantsuit.
We are living out the prologue of a dystopian-future science fiction novel.

But many of those novels turn out to be very good reads, such as Neoromancer, 1984, Brave new world etc.
You have to look at the positive
Also, if Donald wins, there will be a new golden age for stand-up comedy and political satire )
One has to wonder if the two presidential candidates really can relate to ordinary people. Has Trump ever stood in line at a supermarket?
When was the last time Hillary was less than a hundred yards from a Secret Service agent? Have they ever walked through a poor neighbourhood without bodyguards and journalists present? When was the last time any of them sat behind the wheel of a car?
Donald Trump now says that after teh Democratic convention he is "taking the gloves off" and he'll stop being "Mr. Nice Guy"
So what has he been doing so far?
Anyone who had hopes he would get less extreme and more presidential around as the election nears should start worrying about now.
I wasn't very surpriced that Hillary didn't chose Bernie as VP. But do you think she will offer him some other important position? It may be a smart move to calm his voters and keep him on the inside of the administration instead of having him as a peremanent oposition.
I can't quite imagine him leading the departments of Defence, State, Homeland Security or Treasury. But perhaps the Departments of Health and Guman Services or Education?
Perhaps UN ambasador would work?
An alternative would be to apoint someone else from the left wing of the party, such as Elisabeth Warren.
