He's too expensive for Bond, and he's just too good to take over a series from someone else. He needs to be hired to start and series, and then others can take over from him (like with Superman and Harry Potter). He could never have stepped into Bond unless the idea was to throw away everything that came before. And I think Williams would have enough respect for Bond music to deny doing it if they wanted him.
I watched Nocturnal Animals (newish film from Tom Ford) on Sunday evening. Interesting film but the soundtrack is very reminiscent of John Barry in parts and worth a listen - it's by Abel Kozenoiwski
Would love to have David Arnold back. As for the others that have been referenced, while I love some of Giacchino's work (first two Star Treks come to mind), I find his latest efforts too uninspired (Rogue One, Dr Strange, Spider-Man). Big YES to Djawadi, his Iron Man remains a hidden jewel in soundtrackland. Alan Silvestri would nail it, of course (he can do no wrong in my mind). Hans Zimmer, if he had a good day, could also do it, but should he switch the automatic on it's run for the hills.
Would be quite interesting to hear some of these gents try to meld their sound with classic Barry style and larger-than-life brass.

someone somewhere was listing possible alternate composers and mentioned Howard Shore. I cant find the post now, maybe like Skittlebrau I must have drempt it. But the gist was, anything Howard Shore composed would sound too much like Lord of the Rings, which is not how Bond music is supposed to sound.
Thing is, before Lord of the Rings, Shore did the music for all those creepy Cronenberg movies, and they don't sound anything like Lord of the Rings, though they don't sound like Bond music either.
But before that he was the original bandleader during the first five years of SNL, you know with the big fat horn section later used by the Blues Brothers, and that classic 70s saxophone sound leading into the commercial breaks? and before that he was in a jazzrock band called Lighthouse, also with horn section (he played alto sax).
And that ability to score for a big fat horn section is I think relevant for how we want our Bond scores to sound.
I don't hear big fat horn sections in a lot of these other composers works people keep recommending. So I recommend Shore, just so long as he returns to that SNL house band/Blues Brothers sound.

Really hope that David Arnold returns for Bond 25. As much as I enjoyed Thomas Newman's efforts, Arnold has the touch when it comes to the signature sound of the series. If he does return, I hope the producers keep him around for the next film as well.

I'd be equally happy with Michael Giacchino or Arnold, I don't think theyd get Giacchino though sadly.
For me the music is a very important element, what showed in Sp was how the score sucked any excitement out of the big action sequences. when I listen to certain parts of qos score like the pts chase or boat chase it's exciting just to the ear without visuals, whereas snow plane or the Rome car chase just don't do it imho.

Arnold gets my vote also. His work on CR and QOS was outstanding despite being hampered by a sub par theme song on QOS.
Arnold "gets" Bond and CR and QOS were real Bond scores reflective of the tone set by Barry. I really believe that a generic action film score takes even a very good Bond film down a notch.
I must say was extremely disappointed with Newman when he recycled most of the Skyfall music in to Spectre. it came across have assed and lazy. That being said I love David Arnold as much as the next bond fan, but I feel like he has had his time with bond and I would prefer to take a chance with a new sound verses the safe bet of Arnold. My vote is for Lorne Balfe as he did an excellent job with MI:Fallout. I find myself going back to "Escape through Paris" and most of all "Stairs and Rooftops". I'm also a fan of Michael Giacchino. However my first choice is to go with Balfe.
