Altering a Zara Enjoying Death Shirt

I was in a charity shop in Edinburgh today, and I couldn't believe what I saw on the rack: a Zara Youth shirt, size small!! I grabbed it as quickly as I could and tried it on at home. The fit is great, but I realised that removing the dark grey fabric from the shirt would be harder than expected.

Does anyone here have any experiences altering their Zara shirts for screen accuracy? If it can't be done, I'm seriously considering selling this on the bay, that's how much I can't these dark grey bits :p

    Congratulations!!

    Now, 4 words:

    GO TO A TAILOR

Seriously, as I'm sure you know, you scored with this find. Don't mess it up trying to do alterations yourself. And bring lots of photos of the SA shirt so the tailor has no doubts about what you want done. Looking forward to seeing the final result!

Excellent advice, I am by no means a professional with a needle and thread. The biggest problem I'm going to face is that, underneath the grey material on the buttons side, there is no fabric underneath. So when they remove it, there will be no way to extend it potentially...am I going to have to find some blue cloth and draw little blue roses on it myself? I'll bring it to a tailor next week and report back with their advice.

Wow, that's going to make it more difficult. I thought the grey fabric was just a facing tape stitched over the blue patterned fabric. Just something to add reinforcement for the buttons. I'm assuming the grey fabric at the collar is just covering the blue fabric and can be removed?

I have no idea if this will work without seeing the shirt, but if the length is a little long maybe you could have the shirt hemmed shorter and use the fabric removed from the bottom of the shirt to cover the button placket (i.e stitch the blue patterned fabric from the bottom of the shirt over the grey fabric and reattach the buttons). If you may only be able to cover the top four buttons but that should be enough to give you a more SA look; the grey fabric will mostly be hidden on the bottom part of the placket when the shirt is buttoned. To do it right, I think you would probably need a strip of fabric about 2.5" wide at least.

Good luck, I hope you can find a solution!

Yes go to a seamstress, this is easy to alter, but a lot of work...
