How does James Bond get paid?

Missouri, USAPosts: 387MI6 Agent
Is he paid according to his rank as Commander in the Royal Navy? is he on some other pay scale? Would he have a bank account with his name on it (what a security nightmare)? I don't think I have ever seen any information on this in the books or movies.

Think there is a thread about it, with more information.
It is mentioned in one of the books in some detail. He has a modest private income as well as his salary. He lives quite frugaly when not on a mission. He also makes some money gambling.
i looked that up on one of those sites where they convert the sum from the time to now it would be nearly 100 thousand pound not a bad salary )
I was just skimming through OHMSS and there we learn how much M earns ... Bond visits M in his home on Christmas day to plot the assault on Piz Gloria, and speculates (to himself) that even on a senior civil servant's salary M could not possibly afford this fancy estate
And yes, James Bond is a ostensibly civil servant and is paid on the appropriate scale. It even mentions that Bond is classed as a civil servant in The Times obituary featured in You Only Live Twice (1964).
