What would it have taken for Moore to be considered a great Bond?

We all know that despite our own personal view of Roger Moore as Bond, he got a lot of flack, and isn't considered by most to be a "great" Bond. What would have it taken for that to be different? Perhaps less emphasis on quips/comedy? Moore appearing in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (which was the plan, but fell apart due to the Saint)? The latter would have been really interesting.

What do you think?

I quite like Tha Moore didn't do ohmss, it's a different film, has a different feel and Lazenby suits it's physical nature, although connery in his frwl days would have also been good in that film, funny thing with Moore is that like him or loathe him pretty much everyone has some level of respect for him, he kept the franchise alive and turned in some great performances, his failings being that he just wasn't very physical. What also doesn't help is that in my opinion the style of the 70's isn't revered like the 60,s.
It was either that.....or the priesthood
