Is bumping older threads generally preferred to making new ones?

I just wanted to check, some forums seem to have it the other way around, but if it's preferable to bump up old threads with new posts than to post new ones, I would like to know. Thanks!

    I think they do prefer that if there is an existing thread on a subject, that we continue to
    Use it. :) Using the search function can help, but not always. I think nearly all of us have
    Had a thread closed at some point, because a similar one already exists, it's nothing
    Personal, just Good "housekeeping"

    Thanks, TP, that's an accurate assesment. We do prefer not to have too many similar threads. And if in doubt, please ask!

    Having a thread closed by the mods is a rite of passage. At least that was what Barbel told me as he thrashed me when I was tied to a chair with the seat cut out :D
    Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

    Barbel is very big on discipline............

    It could also be a bit of jealousy, as many of the threads I've had closed have been
    Thigh slappingly brilliant, ahead of their time and groundbreaking, but all I ever get is
    "That's a crap thread" or " Not this Boll*cks again " .......... Sadly someone has to run
    The place, keeping the duplicate threads to a minimum, and the mods at AJB are
    Always very fair, giving the benefit of the doubt and sometimes letting a similar thread
    Continue, if it's coming from a different angle. -{
    I know it can feel bad having a thread closed, we're only human but everyone should take
    Even a Quantum of solace from the fact, that it's happened to us all. -{

    Then keep a note of names and dates draw up your plans for revenge , hire some cut throat
    Mercenaries .............. But I've said too much. ........ the Mod's have people everywhere .........
    Meet me here at midnight, I'll tell all ......... ;)

    It's a space thing more than anything else but I think the mods are fair in that regard. They don't just close a thread for no reason. It all helps in the efficient running of the forum.

    ...and your next appointment is with Sir Miles, who isn't as lenient as me! :o

    Carry this on and I will inform Mrs Higgins about your behaviour here - and, having seen her in action (so to speak)...I know she will punish you in ways I couldn't begin to dream of :D

    Have you learnt that in the AJB Mods seminar - instead of banning members, threaten them with their wifes? :v

    Personally I was planning to pay extra for Mrs Higgins to come round and "chastise" me for bumping threads....
