Based on an original idea from Barbel.............
Plenty of good car chases and stunts have been in the Bond films, from the amazing
Spiral jump of TMWTGG , the helicopter v Lotus chase of TSWLM or the contemporary
Pursuit at the beginning of QOS.
Although many other films have had splendid car sequences, The French Connection,
Bullet, Ronin to name a few.
So p!ease post any thoughts, opinions and names of films we car fans should look out
For, from Bond to the Fast & Furious {[]. Or, have you seen any really bad car chases, worth
Looking at for a laugh.
As a Bond fan, I do love the DAF chase sequence in the Hotel car park, so inventive for
Such a compact space, and I think the 71 mustang is a beautiful car.

Honourable mention for the Bourne films too.

The Peacemaker 1997, has an unusual car chase. In which George Coloney used the car

Taking a cue from the FRWL David and Goliath mismatch of the Citroen 2CV and the more formidable pursuing Renaults, I thought the DB5 and Ferrari race in GE was cool. It evoked the car fetish of the Fleming books, esp. how Bond loved "being passed at speed by a pretty girl" that he found more exciting than gunplay. In it, we see a playful yet gallant Bond (“ladies first”), living the ultimate male fantasy or rather, visual/conceptual Bond iconography, driving a cool car, with a hot babe in the passenger seat, while racing with another hot babe, who later turns out to be a villain…shades of Naomi and her helicopter from TSWLM!
The other distinction I liked was that by this time the DB5 had morphed from a company car to Bond's leisure car, one that is vintage and customized for his comfort in the spirit of James Bond in the books.
What I also found so cool was Bond’s handling of the 60’s vintage DB5 to keep it at par performance-wise with the then most current road car that Ferrari had to offer, the 355. I mean, just compare the dimensions of the cars, the Aston sitting high on skinny tires of the period, in contrast to the wider and Ferrari on low-profile tires and a lower center of gravity, yet the 2nd unit managed to make the Aston perform formidably despite its age.
Further, when describing his car chases. His wonderfully descriptive sequences in Moonraker of
Bond's chase after Sir Hugo. Racing gear changes, screaming superchargers. All fantastic stuff. -{
Thought I'd add the 7 ups car chase.

" ... she had found herself being pushed into the back of the car, a rug was thrown over her, and they were hurtling through the streets of London and she could hear other cars near them, the frantic ringing of a bicycle bell, an occasional shout, the animal growl of an old klaxon, the whirring putter of a motor-scooter, a scream of brakes... "
With big engines, no power steering, or ABS etc. In the Novels Bond had to be a racing driver, to
Help get him out of trouble....... Until the crash. With Bond's car lights shining up to the sky after
Turning over and over, rising up like an insect.
Damn, I must read the books again !
Just for anyone who hasn't see it, Fear is Key. Chase sequence.
From Vanishing point ( The entire film is a car chase ) to the sillier,
Fun filled Smokie and the Bandit movies.
Strange to think Bond's first car chase in Dr No ( not the drive from the
Airport) along the mountain road. Used so much back projection , with
Connery swinging the wheel all over the place. Although not to be too
Critical, it was how everyone else was doing it at the time. On a Channel
5 car documentary, the showed the letter from Eon productions, to the
Car rental company complaining about the cost ( I think it was six shillings )
Compared to today, when companies pay millions to have their cars "placed"
In a movie or TV series. Yet it was the same with Goldfinger, Aston Martin didn't
Want to be involved and had to have their arm twisted to get a car ! )
The wheel rim / hub cap would pop off and roll across shot. Sadly alloy
Wheels put an end to that.
about half the film is one car chase or another, at least four different sequences
best part is in the shopping mall, they actually got permission to do all that damage to a real shopping mall scheduled for demolition, also to crash right through the doors of City Hall in the final scene, all good publicity for the City of Chicago, proud of their local boy done good Belushi
and when Aykroyd parks the Bluesmobile, its the toon of the Peter Gunn theme
car chase from 3 days to kill.
One of my all time favorite. " the new oldmobiles are quite early this Year"
The Raid 2 car chase -{
I think you can even watch it on youtube, this guy hammers a car through Paris at something like 5am.
It was filmed in the 70's I think, and was initially banned in France I believe.
It's awesome to watch if you like car stuff. I am sure the chase scenes in Ronin were inspired by it.
No one has mentioned The Italian Job yet...The original one...
Some Bond car chases.
Now that was the one I was going to mention, but didn't know the name. It's great isn't it, and Keith Richard showed it when he commandeered BBC4 recently for his own programming. A lovely sense of Paris atmosphere. But are we sure it's a car? I'd grown to assume it was a motorbike, because it's so nimble.
Roger Moore 1927-2017
"Do you expect me to talk? "No Mister Bond I expect you to die"
( Only my thoughts on it ) to lighten the mood after the horrible killing by Hinx .
There's some tremendous driving of those 3 minis by stuntmen at the time.
It's a "camp" movie, doesn't take itself to seriously, but hats off to some of those driving sequence fantastic. The three minis in the sewage pipe brilliant stuff.
"Do you expect me to talk? "No Mister Bond I expect you to die"
The GoldenEye chase, to refresh your memory.
The Persuaders chase in question.
The Persuaders chase took part at the coastal drive between Toulon and Italy while GE was located in the Sea Alps which is quite a popular drive and can be often seen in car ads or car shows.
The only parallel that I can see is an Aston Martin and a red Ferrari and that it's in France.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I just happen having seen the Persuaders quite often and adore the french Corniche - Hyères with the palm trees is my personal recommendation if you ever pay a visit there
