I can identify with what you are saying. Silvia is me in my darkest times. When all the scars and demons seem to just overwhelm me.
I think that Bond and Silvia are, in many ways, feeling the same emotions. However, what keeps Bond resilient is that sense of a purpose greater than himself.
I struggle with deep depression often and I only find my fulfillment when I get lost in something greater than myself.
Bond becomes my mask.
I had not really thought of that but it is true. Silvia falls deeper into a "pit" because he is only out for himself. {[]
The Bond/Silvia contrast makes for great storytelling in Skyfall. I learned in a storytelling class that the listener(viewer) takes on all the major characters and experiences the story from each perspective. For me, the tension between Bond's response to his role as agent and Silvia's response, is never fully resolved. I don't think we end up knowing why each reacted as they did and it is up to each of us to figure that out ourselves. This is part of what makes Skyfall such a repeatably watchable movie for me.
Wow, SKYFALL had the opposite effect on me -- it made me more depressed.
What had become of the James Bond we all knew and loved and were so entertained by?

Bond and Silva are two sides of the same coin in that regard. Even through wardrobe when they first meet alludes to this. Bonds in a dark jacket and white shirt and Silva's in a light jacket and dark shirt.
