Casino Royale does definitely seem dated. I could never put my finger on why exactly, though.
The whole re-boot idea is so 2006. Unfortunately, IMO, it's still a popular phenomenon. I do like CR, but I always felt rebooting wasn't necessary. There is no where in the novel that specifically states the Le Chiffre assignment was his first after becoming a double O. The filmmakers were just piggybacking on the success of the Batman Begins reboot trend, and following the latest fad. I think Pierce would have been great in CR as his 5th outing. A chance for him to actually get to do a Fleming story.
Hate to be a jerk here, but it seems that the discussion has been stuck on the merits/demerits of CR for quite some time now--far off the original topic, to say the least. I'm sorry, I know it happens often and it's kind of the nature of this forum, but I really get antsy when threads stray off topic for too long. Anyone have anything to say concerning the original topic of the thread?

Reuniting him with Campbell and Arnold would be the dream team.

Perhaps we could get Salma Hayek or Catherine Zeta Jones (who, back in 2004, would have made an excellent Vesper alongside Brosnan in Casino Royale).
