Barbour Beacon reissue

Hello all,
It appears Barbour has reissued the Beacon (AKA Commander) jacket once more according to a few retailers such as Selfridges and End Clothing. As someone who owns a size large Beacon from last year, which is incidentally too large for me, I was wondering if anyone knew what the fit was like on the current version. Is it the same relatively slim fit as all previous iterations of it, or more generously sized as indicated on the End Clothing website? Here is the link, if you are curious:http://www.endclothing.com/us/barbour-beacon-sports-jacket-mwx0007ol71.html Notice that under the 'sizing' section, it is indicated that it is a loose fitting jacket.
Thank you

Bond: “I must be dreaming.”
I have a Barbour Beaufort and the fit is much different.
I don't think that Beacon is true to size. A small should fit comfortably on a 35" chest. That's a pretty small chest for a 6 foot guy.
I live in central Florida. When it's no warmer than 60 F, I can wear the jacket with only a henly underneath, even then it's dependent on how sunny it is and I take it off when I get inside a store or house. When it's no warmer than 50 F, I can wear the jacket with the NPeal and the Henley, but I still take it off when I get inside, and if it's too sunny at 50 F, I can't do the NPeal underneath. If it stays in the 40's F or below, which rarely ever happens, I can wear the SA outfit rain or shine, but I still take it off inside a store or something. It's just that kind of jacket, for me at least. It's easy to sweat in this jacket when it's 50 F and above. Hope that helps -{

I wear a medium on most things (including LVC leather) and this fits me well but the arm holes are tight.
That's the problem with this jacket — and I say this as someone who owns both the original ToKiTo and a Beacon Commander. There is no perfect time to wear it. The jacket breathes horribly. After I bought my first one, I wore it on chilly nights and still found myself sweating uncomfortably. I bought the second in a smaller size to fit more as a blazer as intended. But I couldn't leave it on indoors. Is it warm? Very much so. I almost now tend to wear these as (New England) winter coats. For me, they don't work well spring and (early) fall. Glad to hear others' experiences.
So unless you experiment with removing the membrane, don't think there's an easy solution...
Yes it did. But it soon dried out after use.
I bought mine at Hurleys, but I believe they are now out of stock (size Medium). I'm 5-8" with a 40" chest and it fits snugly. It is tight across the back when I fold my arms in front of me, with a medium weight sweater.
Not having the breathable membrane such as Gortex, most items will tend to trap moisture. The waxing applied to coats does make them quite water resistant. However, if you want the perfect combination of both then you probably want to consider some technical clothing, such as Arcteryx (their fit is more tailored) or North Face.
My Barbour does not seem too warm, but then again, I have not been running flat-out through a cold, damp bog. Or is moor the more accurate term?
Does a large equate to a 42 or 44 suit size? I could be interested.
Glad to hear that mine's not the only one that makes me sweat! I have heard about this issue before I nabbed mine, and it is definitely true. Here in mild Sydney I would probably have a window of 4-6 weeks to enjoy this jacket comfortably. I don't care though as it looks so damn cool....except for the fact that you will feel an uncontrollable urge to break out into a high leg-lift sprint at every opportunity )
Has anyone got both the Beacon Sport and the Lutz to give me a true use comparison? I love the Beacon Sport however it is nearly double the price of a Lutz! I'm also a big chap, so slim fit isn't my thing unless I order a size up.
