TSWLM Lotus Esprit details...

Can anyone confirm with some conviction a detail concerning the window grilles on wet Nellie?

An online review of the Fujimi kit states all the grilles should be on top of the glass, but the instructions say to put the rear grille under the window, but the other three have the grilles on top.

The mini champs model has the side grilles on top of the glass but front and back are under...

So what's the correct combination?

The 1/8 Autoart version has the following:
    Front and Rear under glass
Both doors on top of glass

As far as I know the Ertl 1/8 is the same

    Hope that helps -{

Here is the link to the RML Auctions "Wet Nellie" Lotus Esprit. From these images it would appear to have outside grilles on front & sides with under glass on the rear although you may pose the question how do you shoot a missile through a sheet of glass? :s

The actual car/sub (having viewed in person when it originally toured the US) had the grilles attached to exterior on the sides, under the glass at the rear, and then, actually, just black electrical tape laid across the outside of the glass at the front.

Was that a faithful restoration though after its ten years in storage?

It looks like it's a firm 'sides on the outside, front and rear on the inside' result.

Thanks to everyone for chipping in.

You can see the louvres in the video that I did for The Bond Experience for the Wet Nellie Auction, here:

The ones on the front and rear windows were applied, and the ones on the sides were on the outside. You can see inside the car, too.

    Hope that helps.

    Huh?
The tour I wrote of was summer '77.

From what I can make out that car went into storage on a ten year lease where it was forgotten about. Fast forward ten years and the lockup was bought in auction whereby the car was bought for a fraction of its true value. It's new owners then repaired it before putting it on tour.

So when I asked if it'd had a faithful restoration, I meant after being found in storage after ten years of solitary confinement.

I'm not under the impression that any "repairs" were made by the guy who bought the storage unit.

If you look at the images from the eBay listings (where the owner originally posted at a fraction of the RM sale price), there doesn't appear to have been any work done and, indeed, no changes made between how it looked on the trailer he made for it and how it appeared in the RM sale (for example, there is a crack running from the rear license plate well up toward the spoiler visible in both the eBay and RM photos).

Could be wrong but I believe he just took the prop from the unit, built a trailer for it, and took it around to local fairs, etc. as it was.
