A new Anthony Horowitz Bond novel...

Thebookseller.com have published this article stating that Anthony Horowitz will return to write another Bond novel, to be published by Jonathan Cape. If this is true I think it is very good news, since I feel Trigger Mortis was one of the best continuation novels and it has been too long since an author has had the opportunity to have more than one shot at a Bond novel.

    Great news for the literary James Bond continuation there. Like TP I wanted Mr Horowitz to return for another Bond novel so I am equally as delighted that he is. Good to hear that Fleming material is again being included too. 2018 will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Bond continuation project in print that started with the publication of Kingsley Amis' Colonel Sun back in March 1968.

    I can't wait! This, with the seemingly instant follow-up installments of the Young Bond books, I don't think I've ever experienced a time when Bond novels were coming out in such a rapid succession!

    Very good news. I wouldn't have minded if the task had been handed to another new author, but I am more than happy to have Horowitz tackle it again.

    Absolutely fantastic news. Trigger Mortis was my favourite of the continuation novels. Apart from Amis, it was the most Fleming of all the books.

    Surprised they didn't wait until tomorrow to announce it, being International James Bond Day and all, but either way I am absolutely delighted that Horowitz is back, with new original Fleming material to boot!

    The continuation novels have been hit and miss, but Trigger Mortis was a one the very best. It makes sense to let Horowitz write more Bond novels. I'm looking forward to reading it. But should't this thread be sticky?

    A strange comment by Horowitz is where he says that his "killer opening line" is "the only reason why I want to write the book."

    Hopefully his enthusiasm ends up extending beyond the first page of the novel :p

    That's true. But I guess we could use this space to talk about what we want to see in the new novel etc.
    I'd like a Bond girl wo isn't a spy/ investigating alongside Bond but just gets caught up in the mystery. Perhaps a British Villain this time to spice it up a bit? All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed Trigger Mortis and I can't wait for Horowitz next installment.

    I know it's hard to avoid, but I'd like a plot that doesn't involve: Action-packed start, girl introduction, pursuit, introduction of villain, villain-should-die-but-doesn't, Bond captured, girl dies, Bond-should-die-but-doesn't, escape, Bond gets another girl.

    I know that we're dealing with spy fiction here, but the strange thing is, the real SMERSH were disbanded probably before even Goldfinger took place, so they would definitely not have existed by the time Trigger Mortis occurred!

    Anthony Horowitz's new Bond novel "Forever And A Day" to be published in May. Takes place before CR.

    If this is indeed a prequel to Casino Royale it will be the first non Fleming novel I will buy and read.

    Hmm, definitely keen to give that a read! I hope it goes a bit into his years in Naval Intelligence - i've always wanted to hear some stories about CMDR Bond's time in WW2.
