Expanded Soundtracks?

I've recently seen expanded soundtracks on sale from Elite Soundtracks. For example:-

They also have TMWTGG, TSWLM, OP, AVTAK, LTK, GE & TWINE. These aren't known record company releases & could be sourced from Spain. Can't find much about them, just vague info on www.discogs.com.

Surely these can't be legit. I'd have read about them. Does anybody know about them & their quality? If they aren't legit how they can be advertised with such glowing advertising? I'm confused. Any help much appreciated.

No, they aren't legit. The quality varies from track to track, and include re-recordings from Nic Raine & The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra alongside tracks from the legitimate releases, rips from the films themselves, etc.

Regarding the new "Doctor No" releases, I just recently did some shopping on DISCOGS, they had some new album cover designs. One has some of the tracks like "Bond Comes Home", "Tarantula", "Doctor No visits Bond's Bedroom". They had squeezed these tracks between the preexisting songs.
I wished that there had been a seperate release of "Doctor No" like they did with the film "Philadelphia" one with the pop songs and another with the incidental film music.
I wished that all bond soundtracks were two record sets. Also, there were never any yellow albums. I think "Doctor No or "Octopussy" should've had a yellow cover.

I am still waiting for the extra tracks from "The Man With The Golden Gun" & The Spy Who Loved Me" to be released. Nic Raine did an OK job but was very redundant in his efforts on the Spy Who Loved Me tracks from "Bond Back In Action 2" He repeats tracks that Marvin Hamlisch had already done instead of branching out.
I thing its probably the copywright issues but again, they add songs to original soundtracks that were never in the movie. How frusterating.

Thanks to Barbel I'm currently on a John Barry retrospective, revisiting tmwtgg soundtrack and DAF, I've also been comparing Barry's work with Martins lald soundtrack I'm finding it's been a long time since I listened to full soundtracks, I'm really enjoying my daily commute.

That actually looks pretty neat, IMO.
Say what you want about Die Another Day but Arnold did his job...masterfully.
I mean, he even tried to make the CGI surfing scene exciting with his music and if you listen to the piece on its own, he succeeded.
I find myself going back to DAD's soundtrack pretty often but I had the impression that there already existed an expanded version of DAD on 04', I believe. So long as the other Brosnan era films are given the same treatment, I can't complain.

You're right there was already a 2-disc DAD expanded score released over a decade ago. I don't know the exact year I bought it but it was definitely when I was in high school so between 2004-2008. I listened to it alot even though I didn't like the film that much. I don't know where my copy currently is but I would be interested to compare the differences between the two. This new release appears to have more cues on it though.

Did anyone else get the DAD limited edition? It's really great that we finally have it available. I haven't seen the film in a long time, so I'm not too familiar with the differences between the film versions and the original versions, but it's nice to have Arnold's score as he envisioned it as well as the film edited versions. Neil S Bulk worked on this edition, and for those that do not know him, he is a massive Bond fan and has many film scores to his credit.

Apparently, La La Land has the opportunity to release more Bond scores if this one does well. I encourage everyone who downloaded the mp3's years ago to pick this up, it's worth the money even if you don't enjoy the film.

I just received my copy of the DAD expanded set from La-La Land. Most of the material is the same as what was available in the "bootleg" (stolen?) stuff from years ago. This set, however, has a few cuts with notations such as "Film Version" or "Expanded Version" that are alternatives to the cuts in the score. One beef that I have is with the cut "Gustav Graves' Grand Entrance" there are still the furious drums under the orchestra (that appeared on the bootleg cut) that did not appear on the movie's soundtrack. Otherwise, the quality is very good indeed.

I'm pretty sure that was a deliberate choice to provide the score as originally recorded by the composer and not the edited film versions. It's nice that they included the film versions for most of the tracks, but I do agree the added electronic percussion does distract from the orchestral arrangement.

For the life of me I can't hear the difference between the film versions and I've done some comparisions... Which is strange considering that there are cues that were very much differently cut for the film (Hovercraft Chase being the prime examle - I had to re-edit that almost beat for beat to come up with the film version). THe other noticeable difference is the Ice Palace Car Chase which was also fully orchestral in the film, but not on the album. For some reason, people only notice the Grand Entrance difference, perhaps because it's a much more dominant cue. And of course the Madonna song and it's Dirty Vegas Remix from the end are also missing, but haven't heard complaints about that

In fairness, I couldn't describe anything from the latter half of the film because I switch it off once we get to the ice palace. It's probably been over a decade since I've watched those scenes, which is why I'm able to comment on the Grand Entrance track.

I ordered a number of these from Elite; Thunderball, Goldfinger, MWTGG, SWLM, and License to kill.

The sound quality really varies by track and CD. I found the Thunderball to be the best. Are they worth the cost? Probably not.

My bigger issue was with the service from Elite. Being in Canada, they charged me a lot for shipping. It then took me months to get the CD’s- at first they said the original shipment was lost in the mail. They wouldn’t respond to my emails until I put in a paypal resolution request.

In the end I did get them but I was far from impressed.
