Why did we wait until Spectre to buy a turtleneck?

Despite archer swearing by his turtleneck sweaters in every shade of black, we had to wait until Spectre for Daniel Craig to wear one! But did we, during qos Bond obviously wore one under the Tom Ford Harrington or so this picture would lead me to believe. Aside from the dinner suit is a black turtleneck jumper a Bond wardrobe staple?

I didn't wait until Spectre. Connery, Lazenby, Moore and Brosnan (in Remington Steele) were enough inspiration! I don't know what colour turtleneck Daniel Craig is wearing in that photo, but he hasn't worn a black turtleneck as Bond. The black turtleneck is a Roger Moore thing. Like Daniel Craig, black doesn't look good on me. I had some navy turtlenecks when I was at university, though now they are too big on me.

But your always ahead of the pack
It seems that until that poster with the n peal charcoal sweater no one really chased the former Bonds pieces, though Brosnan wore his well I think, sir Roger also pulled it off with aplomb.
I'm actually curious if there was a practical reason for wearing a turtleneck under the Harrington instead of the polo, ie comfort or safety?

Mostly because of the Daniel Craig/James Bond effect, Where if Daniel Craig wears something, especially as James Bond, it just fly's off the shelf, even if its not something that wouldn't look good on you.

That's a very dirty Harrington and those look like the same famk jeans so I'm guessing it was worn under the fully fastened up jacket in the desert sequence.

Agreed. The turtleneck would provide a layer of clothing under the entire collar.

It looks to be another Mock turtleneck like the N Peal one used in Spectre.

He may have worn that turtleneck during filming of QoS (I believe the photograph come from Bond on Set), but I don't think we were meant to see it. The polo is the shirt he's actually "wearing" under the Harrington, although I think the turtleneck looks great.

He is wearing it during the fire Sequences. Thats fire protection clothing.
