Daniel Craig Jeans...need some help, have some questions.

i know this topic has been posted before, but not in 2016.. so all of the 2012, 2013 links are dead.

so, i'm in the market for a decent pair of jeans. i've worn affordable levi's all of my life but am now in the market for something a little more special. i've been doing some homework on selvedge jeans and i'm really liking the history and the craftsmanship of them. who else should i look to when it comes to cool little heritage companies that make quality jeans than daniel craig? and i'm liking a lot of his choices.

i'm also not looking to spend uber mega $$$ on jeans so, here are some of the ideas.

Scotch and Soda Ralston
i don't know if these are selvedge, i just really like the look of them. they're not available in the dark worn color anymore. does anyone know the current, closest approximation to that color/cut??

Frame Niagara
i know absolutely nothing about these. not price, or availability... just really like them.

AG Jeans Graduate?
again...i know very little about them.

there are also the Rag and Bone selvedge and the brunello cucinelli selvedge...which i just love the look of.

if i'm looking to stay under $120-130 or so... i think the scotch and soda or rag and bone jeans are my only options. i'm wondering if anyone would care to expound on some of these jean choices.

also, if none of these fit my criteria, can anyone recommend a quality pair of selvedge jeans similar in appearance to the ones i brought up, with a cool sort of story to them?

discuss...

    Ralston jeans are great, only jeans I own. However I would never pay 150 for them. I got mine on eBay for under 75 shipped each time and own about 5 pairs. -{

I agree with nafets47, the S&S ralstons are great, I also have multiple pairs and for the price they are excellent. I would recommend trying them first as jeans can fit very differently, I tried the AG graduates recently and they didn't suit me. I also purchased a pair of the Frame Denim jeans at a great price and wish I had bought more as they are excellent (thanks to Welshboy for the zalondo tip, sadly now sold out) and they have become my favourite pair. I don't know about the rag and bone or BC jeans but I'm sure someone can assist.

I have loads of the scotch and soda jeans, Ralston and some darker wash Dalton ones, they are also a slim fit. There was a company in Manchester selling dark Ralston last year for about £70 on eBay, new and they were a bona-fide shop may be worth a try?
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Jeans, like any other item of clothing that look good on someone else may not necessarily look so good on you.
My very simple advice is to try as many different higher-end brands, colours and fits as possible using Dan's stlye if you like it as a guide but at the end of the day choosing the ones that look best on you.
My girlfriend loves the cheapest pair of jean and the ones I hate wearing the most. :#

Having tried on all of the ones you've mentioned, I can't echo the previous posts sentiment enough. May not necessarily look good on you. As someone with a similar height, weight, and I thought build to DC (I'm 5'10 ~170) Ralstons and Frame look awful on me. My only thought is either he has a much larger waist than me or really skinny thighs. I do however own two pairs of Vernon that fit me much better from Scotch and Soda.

Also, you mention "selvedge" though the only jeans that are would be the Rag & Bone. (Edit: and the Brunellos, which I've also tried and didn't fit me well). I own a pair of "Raw" Fit 2's and they're great. Wearing them now actually. I have a 32" waist and got a pair sized 30 and still need a belt. They're very big in the waist.

If you're actually interested in selvedge/raw denim there are other better brands out there that focus more on quality of denim than having a designer label on them. Unbranded, Tellason, Naked & Famous, Williamsburg Garment Co., etc (there are tons!) are all amazing. Unbranded are particularly great for the money and a great start for someone wanting raw denim. A great resource is Heddels, specifically heddels scout. You can enter in measurements from your favorite fitting pair of jeans and it'll sort out some great options for you.

Pardon the book, just had a lot of time on my hands during a layover in the terminal. Hope this has helped.

Wow. Yes...that was extremely helpful and informative. I'm digging the selvedge but not necessarily the idea of the raw denim, with the fading indigo. But still, thanks!

If you're in the US and looking to buy legit "Made In the USA" selvedge jeans (as opposed to overpriced Japanese denim), THE best fabric is coming out of White Oak Mills - https://www.conedenim.com/white-oak/. Their fabrics are being used in a number of brand's selvedge jeans. So if you're shopping for jeans and see the denim is coming from White Oak Mills, then you know it's properly-made selvedge (on shuttle looms). My go-to brand comes from a small Los Angeles-based company called Johnson Motors Inc. They produce a raw denim selvedge jean that I love. They don't have fake rinses/washes or added rips - they're a blank canvas, so as you wear them, no two pairs will look alike. They also have a history/connection to Steve McQueen which makes it an added bonus.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

FIRST RULE: ALWAYS, ALWAYS account for stretch after wearing for a bit. I cannot stress this enough. I always order my jeans tight in the waist as they always stretch out.

If you want to dabble at a lower price point, J crew currently has 40% off. I would suggest the 484 in raw or the 770 in raw (depending on fit preference). The denim is Japanese and its legit. Yes the jeans are assembled in China, but they are good to go. You could also check out their Wallace and Barnes line. They usually use Cone denim and are made in the USA for the most part.

My personal favorite is the Levis Vintage Clothing 1947 501 in raw. They also come in a "new rinse" wash (essentially a one wash at the factory), which were raw but washed once at the factory so they aren't super stiff. I like the 1967 505 in raw too.
The 501's are shrink to fit (unsanforized denim) so order accordingly size wise. The 505 are sanforized so they are preshrunk.

3Sixteen make great denim, and are pretty true to size.

If you are looking for a nice pair, not too expensive APC make great jeans too. They were my first pair of raws and I still have them. Check out the New Standard fit or the Petite Standard fit.
