Received mine today and am very happy... AS ALWAYS!
I would definitely say that whatever size you are in the Harrington you are in the peacoat.
A question - what do you think of giving it a little steaming to get it to fluff out a little bit? I like the small box to save on shipping but it does get scrunched up...
Mine is reported to be enroute to my local PO. I should get it tomorrow.
I have a steamer that I'm going to use on mine lightly to get out all of the packing creases and wrinkles. It doesn't take much with wool and you don't want to saturate it. Just lightly and quickly, and allow it to hang awhile before wearing while working some of the heavier wrinkles out by hand.
This coat is constructed of dark navy medium-weight melton wool, featuring high cut peaked lapels, a squat collar intended to be turned up and a single rear vent in the back. There is a silky rayon lining with left breast pocket which adds to the luxurious feel of this pea coat. The black leather accents under the collar and pocket flaps contrast beautifully with the dark navy wool. This double breasted coat has...
I assume it's 100% wool, based on the above, but I'm sure Dan can clarify if needed.
I received mine in the post today. The medium is a perfect 40US/50EU. Right down to the sleeve length.
It is snug in the shoulders and upper chest as it should be, but not tight or too constricting. Length is a perfect suit coat length on my frame as I can turn my my fingers up and cup the bottom of the coat in my palm. Slash pockets are adequate for hands to be put all the way in and twist the sleeve in with it to help keep out the cold if you are not wearing gloves. The cut allows a perfect blousing below the waist with only the middle button fastened and there is enough room in the waist too.
I wore it for about a mile and a half walk after work tonight with Lisl von Schlaf in 45°F temperature and a 15-20 kt wind. It's very warm. I was wearing a t-shirt, thermal shirt, and a long sleeve polo.
By the time we returned I could tell I was sweating a bit under the clothing. I could have been very comfortable with just the t-shirt and polo, or it could have been 15-20°F cooler and I would have still likely been comfortable at the pace we walked.
Mine wasn't too wrinkled out of the box. I like the way Daniel rolls these to minimize the wrinkles. I'll still go over it in a bit with my steamer to remove a few in the back, shape the lapels, and remove a couple of wrinkles by the left side pockets.
I'm very pleased and impressed with Daniel's work. I'll be ordering again for certain.
Here are a couple of photos after steaming the wrinkles and shaping the lapels.
This material and color does not lend itself to good photos. These were the best I could come up with under room light. I hate the harshness that a flash produces.
I have the first version in a medium that's getting tight. If I wanted to go up a size, what size would I need in the new version?
The first version of this one was a size larger than current sizing (which is pretty consistent across recent jackets) With that in mind, if the medium is too snug on you now, that may put you in an XL. Your situation sounds exactly like mine in that, I too was a medium in the first (old medium = new large) and I've put on a bit of size (all muscle of course) so now I'm in the XL in the current sizing. As always, I do recommend measuring up your existing jackets / coats for comparison of specs with the ROYALE sizing table.
Hope that helps!!
PS: Thanks for a wonderful review Canoe2 / Iconic Alternatives!!!
Looks like another great jacket (I own the first version).
Is there an ETA on the Haiti jacket project?
Thanks Jacob!!
Yes the Haiti should be back in late Feb... I have a number of pictures of the sample which I'm extremely pleased with, lots of small changes to that one too... I will put them up in a new Haiti thread sometime soon, so everyone can see the details of that upcoming production.

Great news Dan! Very keen to get my hands on one!!
Do these run a little smaller than the genuine BR? The real deal size m fits me perfectly so would I need a large?
Yes, I do believe these have come in a little smaller than the original, mostly because of the high fitted armholes and tailored shape through the body and sleeves.
I think I am a perfect size 40 US and this peacoat fits very well. Not too snug and not too loose, though because the arm holes are higher it is difficult to get a thicker sweater (German Army wool) to fit under the peacoat without it binding under the arms. If you can get all of the sweater sleeve into the jacket armhole by pulling it through from the cuff end it's not too bad. But, remember these arm holes are not spaciously cut and it will be stiff in the shoulders if you choose to wear a thick sweater under this.
It is what gives it 'that' look and I wouldn't change it for anything. It drapes superbly and fits and looks just as well as the BR does at less than a third the cost. And it's lined where the BR is not. That's a helluva lot of money to pay for a coat that doesn't even come with a rudimentary lining.
It's great for a lightweight sweater and button up dress shirt but anything thicker is going to be very snug in the shoulder and armpit.

Dan.
From the reviews I've been reading that's what I was thinking. Thanks for the help.

What are your measurements? So torn between ordering a medium vs large!
What are your measurements herr? I'm so torn between ordering a medium vs large!
40" chest, 32" waist, 33.5" sleeve. Height of 5'-9", weight of 155.
I'm almost exactly the same measurements as Herr Michael (about 20 lbs heavier, which I'm sure is pure muscle ) and I also went with the medium. Very happy with the size.

Looks good. Still waiting out here in flyover country.
I believe David mentions that the Bond peacoat is a wool blend. Does anyone know how much percent wool?

The original BR peacoat was 100% wool. I believe the newer version is 80% wool and 20% nylon.
So the Royale Filmwear peacoat is also 80% wool/20% nylon?

That wasn't me. I don't own the original. Maybe Mantis? Sorry I can't help you with this!
