Can only comment on Ryder III's, had a pair for 3yrs now and find them comfortable, well fitted and smart enough to be used both casual and semi-formal.
Took a few 'wears' to break them in but now they are great. No doubt others will comment on Chilterns but I can't fault the Ryders so they get my vote!

I had the Ryders but found the shape didn't suit my foot. I also found them to be very heavy.

Went for a pair of Cheaney Jackie III's instead and am really pleased with them - I believe the shape is somewhere between the rounder profile of the Ryders and the elongated shape of the C&J's so they work well for me with both jeans and smarter attire.

I have the Ryders so I can only comment on those. Yes, they are heavy and they take a while to break in, but the quality is good. I had an issue with one of the soles that was taken care of by Church's in a satisfactory way. I have two other pairs of Church's. Went to try some C&J's yesterday and they have a completly different fit compared to Church's. Since both shoes look so much alike and both brands offer great quality, I would advise you to try them both and buy the pair that fits best.

When buying English shoes I think the main thing to remember is: you get what you pay for. A £300 pair of shoes is better than a £200 pair but two equaly priced pairs from different brands will be about the same quality.

I agree to some extent but have had a pair of C&J Skye as well as a pair of similar styled Cheaney boots; the leather in the "cheaper" Cheaneys was superior in wear than the C&J's. The tongue on the Skyes was very very thin and the leather on the uppers not at all what I expected for the price.

That said, I do love my Terburys - great quality

As ever, try before you buy to make sure it works for you.
