These are my favourite movies of 2016 (as far as I can remember). I would like to hear your favourites

Room (well acted and a surprice feelgood movie)

Eye in the sky (smart and thought-provoking about drone warfare)

Revenant (Well shot and gripping survival movie)

The Nice Guys (funny and well-written crime fiction by Shane Black)

Arrival (Inteligent and inovative Sci-fi)

Deadpool (origional and funny superhero-movie)

Son of Saul (a masterpiece about holocaust)

Rouge One (Star Wars as a pure action movie)

The Hateful Eight (Best western since True Grit)

    I was hoping I wasn't the only one who saw movies last year, and that some of these people had favourites too. If these people could share their lists with us, it would be very nice :)

    I went to the pictures (yes, old-git northern way of saying movies) quite a lot last year, even though I've got a nice big projector at home and a top notch sound system, but then it's to be expected when I work in broadcast media!

    Here are my watches in no particular order, other than what I remember them:

    Rogue One - top notch film and almost the equal of Episode 4 for me (possibly better than the episode 4 that George Lucas released as his director cut, with all the crappy CGI added).
    Arrival - very good, thought provoking and yet very low key. Alien concepts reminded me of The Mist from a few years back.
    Passengers - see my thoughts elsewhere - great first half hour, terrible last 20 mins.
    Star Trek Beyond - drivel and I expected more from Simon Pegg
    Deadpool - a very different type of Marvel film and a refreshing change from the CGI-filled nonsense that they've become in recent years (how the heck did it not get an 18 cert in the UK though?)
    Independence Day Resurgence - disappointing and filled with terrible CGI. It actually looked worse than the original film did to me.
    Hateful 8 - stunning visuals and a non-too-bad story. It's not a western (Tarantino calls it a southern), but more of a whodunit with stetsons and revolvers. Up there with the best from QT, but not quite in the PF/KB league.

    Either Rogue one or Anthropoid, it was a very disappointing year for films though. there's usually at least one film I absolutely love but there wasn't really any this year.

    Deadpool - absolutely loved it, easily (IMO) the most enjoyable superhero film made, by virtue of the performances and dialogue. -{

    Yep - I agree with that -{

    Can't say I was expecting much and I only went because my son really wanted to see it - I think I liked it more than him - and he loved it :D

    I forgot to list "Spotlight" as one of the best movies of last year. It's an ensemble movie in the style of "All the president's men" about the Catholic church and PRIEST's (Pervert Resident In Every Town). Quality movie.

    The number of new films that I saw in 2016 was pitifully few. However, the two that stood out for me were The Hateful Eight (if that counts as a 2016 film, I'm not sure) and Sully, both of which were excellent. Rogue One was also very good.
