Gotta disagree....Craig was doing some amazing work in British indie cinema. He was on a roll in the early 00's with Love is the Devil, Some Voices, Sylvia, Enduring Love and The Mother. He was starting to make a splash and booking roles in the USA with Road to Perdition, Munich and The Invasion. Most importantly, Layer Cake demonstrated he was a leading man.
You have to give Barbara props for picking him in 2005. He was such an edgy and intriguing choice that broke all the rules. I can't really think of someone quite as rough, sexy and raw to play the part next.
I watched the SAS film and I thought he was pretty bad, sorry. Back when Brosnan was doing those kind of cheap movies you could tell he had something about him, a bit of charisma. Dickinson or Hoult are a bit stronger for me.
Hoult is actually a very good actor, not just another pretty face/model type. He has also grown and matured into his looks but he still appears almost too youthful at 31....but given the nature of time passage between Bond films, that would be a good thing. If they get around to Bond 26 in 4 or 5 years, Hoult will probably look even more suitable and have a bit more "gravitas" but still be young enough. Hoult also looks like a killer...which IMO works for Bond. Again, what I always look for is that special combination of screen presence and charisma which is a must for any Bond actor.
Hoult is promising. He came second to Robert Pattinson as Batman. Personally, I'm heartbroken that Pattinson won't be Bond. He would have ben perfect after Good Time, The Lighthouse and Tenet. I guess it's too late now.

I think once you're Batman, you're Batman.....But the film could get a negative reception. I doubt that with Matt Reeves and the trailer was lit. However, Cubby had a mantra that if you're Bond, then you're Bond. He wouldn't let Pierce do the last season of Remington Steele. I think that when it comes down to the big three iconic film heroes who regularly get recast - (1) Batman, (2) Superman, and (3) Bond - you can't play both. The irony is that they are all depicted as looking pretty similar and the actors could all be interchanged.......The only casting anomaly being Daniel Craig.
However......there is a version of events where Barbara gets Pattinson out of his Batman contract or WB ditch him and pivot back to Affleck. But I would say that Pattinson was probably the favourite if Craig called it a day with SP. Now he is a very very very very very long shot.......
There is just such craziness with casting and re-casting these superhero roles. They have gone beyond the realm of just re-booting but are now creating "multi-verses" where there are more than one version of the character played by different actors in different "universes" at the same time or something to that effect. These "multi-verses" apparently can even cross over (apparently even Michael Keaton will returning in a cameo as Batman from another universe). For example, Pattinson is Batman in one universe, while Affleck could still be Batman in another. The reality is, we could hypothetically see this with Bond someday, especially if EON sells Bond off. For example, there could be the contemporary cinematic Bond which come around every 3 years or so along with a Netflix / Premium cable/streaming Bond series with a different actor set during the 50's. Nothing would surprise me anymore. The one thing that I will always be adamantly against is that "Code Name" Theory thing that just annoys me to no end.😫
Well technically we have that at the moment: Toby Stephens is still the radio James Bond. Plus we have had and likely very soon will have again a totally separate video game Bond.
And that's if you don't count the ongoing adventures of book Bond, and young Bond too. Plus there's a few incarnations of Bond in the comic books too. All sorts of different interpretations of the same character.
Considering how we've long adjusted to totally different guys playing the role before it's not really all that different.
Yes you might be right that it actually hurt his chances. There was a funny interview with him in one of the papers to promote the film that started with 'We didn't ask him about James Bond: he brought it up himself' 😂
Can't blame him entirely though: the publicist for the film probably told him to mention Bond as it gets column inches.
Making any sort of Die Hard ripoff is always a poisoned chalice- it's so hard not to think of how good Bruce Willis was in that film.
Apparently Heughan did actually test for Bond for Casino Royale so he's on their radar- I think maybe though as you say, if they watch this film they won't think he's improved since the first time they met him.
They could go for a younger, edgier choice. I saw The King and was impressed with Timothee Chalamet. He's young and skinny, but if he bulked up. I could see it.
I sw him in "Little women". He delivered a good performance in a really good movie, but he was nearly devoid of masculinity. I don't see him as Bond at all.
There's no-one I can really see playing Bond from those discussed. The last really good candidates IMO - such as Michael Fassbender or Tom Hiddleston, both of whom have screen presence - are too old now.
In a way I quite like that though: it means we'll likely get someone a bit unexpected who'll bring something fresh the next time. I'd want him to be right for it, but I'm also happy for him to bring a little different flavour. I think I'd rather be initially a bit unsure of the person they choose than to just think 'oh, yeah, he'll be fine' like if they cast someone like Henry Cavill. Cavill could do it and he'd be perfectly alright, not really bad as such, but I don't think he'd ever be great in it.

He looks like a young Christian Bale.
There is also the fact that Chalamet is American. We don't know what he will look like in 15 years, but now he looks like a faintly femine teenage boy. I can't imagine him as Craig's replacement.

I still haven’t watched any Bridgerton: he seems very mannered and camp in the trailer but I believe that’s the nature of the show so isn’t a criticism of him. I need to check him out; no objections in prospect, he’s the right age and all that.
Page is half Zimbabwan and half English and his features are a very advantagous mix. I think that's a plus for him as Bond, maybe making him acceptable for both those who want Bond to remain white and those who thinks it's time for a non-white actor in the role. I think the smart thing for him at this point, perhaps especially if he wants to be cast as Bond, is to appear in part where he gets to showcase his acting range in some awards-bait dramatic piece.
There's a rumour that he could be in the next Black Panther film - whether as the new lead or another role. If he played the villain in a Marvel film that would increase his chances as Bond. Especially the Black Panther sequel. He'd then be out of the franchise after one picture. Opposed to someone like Madden who is likely tied to the franchise for years.

Madden is hit or miss, great in TV but his films are pretty awful.

I like him as an actor (to my surprise!), but Chalamet is the anti-Bond. He’s the American Eddie Redmayne (whom I don’t like as an actor).
