Would the filmmakers ever be able to recast a Bond actor again?

This got me thinking. Sean Connery returned in DAF after George Lazenby took over in OHMSS. Have you ever considered something like this could happen again nowadays? Say, a new actor would take over in Bond 25 and he doesn't get liked by the audience and/or fans. Do you think the filmmakers would still go as far as to recast Daniel Craig back for Bond 26? (Assuming Craig would do that.)

I don't really see it happening anymore. To me, when a Bond actor is replaced I now have the default feeling he will never be Bond again in another Bond film. But then again, this happened with the Jason Bourne films as well, when Matt Damon returned to reprise his role after whatshisname did it once.

I don't think it will happen. Getting Craig to stay in the Bond films is difficult enough. Once he's out I can't see him turning back. The Connery phenomenon will never happen again, despite the number of people who have discarded Connery for Craig as their favourite Bond.

You can't compare the Bourne series because Jeremy Renner did not play Bourne. So far, the Bourne series hasn't tried to replace Matt Damon, whilst we know that the actor who plays Bond can be replaced.

I think Roger Moore could step right in for Bond 25!

In the long time to make the films Craig will be far too old to take back the role?

Guess I completely assumed he was replaced in the role at some point (haven't seen that film with Jeremey Renner)

I think we have to remember in that first 9 years of the Cinematic life of Bond. The producers made and released 7 films.

    1962 Dr No
    1963 From Russia With Love
    1964 Goldfinger
    1965 Thunderball
    1967 You Only Live Twice
1969 On Her Majesties Secret Service
    1971 Diamonds Are Forever

Craig took over the role and in 2006.

    2006 Casino Royale
    2008 Quantum Of solace
    2112 Skyfall
    2015 Spectre

Impossible therefore for Craig to return. Say Bond 25 comes out in 2018 it will be a minimum of 3 years before Bond 26 Craig would be 53. On the other hand Connery was 41 when he bowed out of the series after DAF.

Connery did NSNA at more or less that age, and Moore continued for more years and films beyond. Not a problem for DC.
