It'd be hard for the mods to keep track of everything, whatever is decided. We would need to rely on reports.
I think that is a given Barbel, like I said I have faith in the members here to deal with and report offending posts and members. We have some diligent and very conscientious members and enough experts to make sure no-one gets taken advantage of.
I do like the idea of a sales/trade section...but not just a single thread...I might have categories like: Screen Used Items...Replica Props...Toys....SA Wardrobe...Frugal Alternatives...Trade for items....Collection sell offs....etc....
I don't like the count limit...so many great items have been purchased from people that just found out about us. Have you seen what the prop replica forum does with their sale trade thread? Quite organized and siloed to one area.
I think this is the best way to go. Then people can avoid all sales threads completely if they wish and avoid clothes if only interested in props etc. Makes total sense
On another note - far too many stickies now, I think one section was half stickies on the first page.
It could certainly do with thinning out. Topics like "My Skyfall plaque" haven't been touched in four years... they must be feeling lonely, and it's the compassionate thing to do.
So many of the stickies can be condensed and many others can be "released", as in don't need to be stickies...even my Bond Experience one that announces when a new vlog is up doesn't need to be a sticky. For the memorabilia section I can go through and see which ones might be redundant or simply outdated etc...

I'd be grateful if you would do that, Mantis, and give me a list of which to unstick.

Also, this seems the best way to go for the main subject. Would anyone like to comment on this idea?

Yes - seems like a good idea all round -{
I also agree with this. I think there's enough trade going on to justify it, and it would make it easier for those who aren't interested in the whole area - or in specific items - to avoid them completely.
I just stared at the opening page to the site....I think a For Sale in the Specialist James Bond Discussion Forum area might be the best. In other words dont put it in the Mem section but either above it or below James Bond Gaming..... I do agree with Higgins that I would have a handful of categories underneath, but not make it so contributors can create NEW categories. For example, you could have Props, Wardrobe, Toys, MISC.?
Hi all
I just went through all this organization when I created the Classifieds section for my website. I've had to take that down temporarily while I get some user account security issues worked out (too many spam accounts were being created), but that section will be back by the end of this month.
Based on my experience, I would suggest a 2 phase approach for AJB. First, I would just create a new Sticky thread in the Memorabilia section, like the Ebay thread. I understand some people here feel that there are too many independent "FS" threads now. But in reality, the first and second pages of the Mem forum are only showing 42 non-sticky threads. Even if 40% of those are FS threads, that's still only around 17 threads at any given time (and it's usually much less). And I would estimate that the average FS thread is only really active for about a week (unless the seller keeps bumping it).
I'm not sure it's worthwhile creating a whole new section of AJB, with different categories, for that few a number of sellers. Most of the categories will probably only have 1 or 2 items for sale. And those will have a pretty short lifespan. So I think just using a sticky thread will be more practical at the start.
If the FS/WTB sticky thread proves to be really popular, then move on to phase 2: creating a new Buy, Sell, Trade section of AJB with separate categories.
Given that AJB uses older software and our excellent mods here already shoulder a lot of responsibility, I think any attempt at setting limits on who can post items for sale is a little unrealistic. Modifying user account core permissions in the platform to allow people with under X number of posts to post anywhere on the site BUT the FS thread isn't that easy unless the functionality is baked into the software. And if the system can't do it automatically, then the mods will have to be monitoring the thread manually to catch people. More trouble than it's worth, IMHO.
Just set some basic rules for buyers and sellers: you can create your one post per item on the Sticky FS thread, but no follow up posts; all communication by PM only; no new, independent threads directing people to your post on the FS thread. It's like the Classifieds section in the newspapers and people should get the hang of it pretty quickly.
My suggestion of separate section is not just about today, but also looks to tomorrow. Many people do trade and sell off this site because they see the FS posts and threads as chaotic and easily lost. If it was organized and integrated more people might be apt to utilize this platform. But, good point (and most important) that ultimately it's up to the mods and threads ability to do this.
One of the other forums I frequent has a "Classifieds" section that's broken down into a few catagories.
Classifieds:
For Sale or Trade
Karma Connection
Wanted to Buy
The karma section is Free items, usually decided by a "I'm thinking of a number from 1-100. First one to guess the number gets the item" type game.
Perhaps AJB could use the same format

Not likely. Moron.

My bad - I thought it was ;%

I usually have to pay extra for that :v

And that category/section will then be divided into the different categories?
I'd be ok with that, if you just add ~10 different "For sale" categories to the mem&coll - this will be a disaster
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Not sure if that's technically possible (hasn't been here yet) but adding 10 different "For sale" categories just like that will be a nightmare!
Then those will become even more excessive.

Just my 2 cents. Cheers! {[]
