Walther PPK

Hello all, I'm actually an old member but took some time away and couldn't remember my password or old user name....I swore it was BCFDRay...anyway, during my absence I've aquire a few new Bond items including my beloved Walther PPK.

Now, I know the original PPK is 32ACP.
Mine is 380, hallmarked in 1968, without any import markings, and has brown bakelite grips. I've been reaching Dr.No and I can't really tell, are Bonds grips black?

Black or brown, movie dependent. Bond even had wooden grips once.

And remember, there wasn't actually a PPK in Dr. No.

Whaaaaat?! Glad I just ordered a copy of "The Most Famous Gun.."

Any other PP/PPK/PPKS owners on the board?

I swapped out the brown grip and magazine to be more modern, but still have them. Off hand, what grips were brown?

Tswlm for sure, and Roger had that gun in other films, I'm pretty sure Dalton had a brown grip on his too.
I'm also a ppk owner.

Interestingly enough, the original magazine I have with bakelite finger extension, wouldn't lock back when empty, but the new ones did.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a supressor. The way I understand it, I would need a PP barrel and to have it threaded and install that on the PPK. The ones used in the early movies were held in place with a dowel?

No, the film suppressors had threaded extensions that screwed INSIDE a threaded barrel...

The PPK is a very rare version and my favourite model PPK. This particular one isn't screen used, but it's from the same 811 serial number run that Brosnans came from and some of the last pieces made by Walther. It's a very rare model because they used new machining to produce the frame and slide and the finish is a parkarised military type finish that's matte black or dark grey in certain lighting. Even the mag has been retooled (including the spur). Apart from the screen used ones they used in GE and TND, this is the only example I've seen. The suppressor is a replica based on Brozza's.

Very nice, I gotta say I'm a bit jealous! I'm just happy I was able to get one since they aren't producing them "until further notice"

You have a very nice example. Hard to get them in the US without import marks or Earl's stamp on them somewhere. Plus the exact model you have was used by Connery, Moore and Lazenby. You'll see this when you get Most Famous Gun.

That is a very nice example. I too had a '68 9mmk model I bought from Earl without import marks. It came in before GCA68.

Bond has also used the war-time or pre-war pattern PPK. Thunderball comes to mind.

My own ppk, sadly now deactivated, as much as I love it I do wonder why I keep it sometimes?

You only see that when it's dropped off the roof and it goes off. The only other time you see one of those is briefly in FYEO. And that's the only time you see Bond hold one on screen. There are several floating around in the States that Stembridge claims are used by Bond in LTK, but that is utterly untrue.
