    I think a silver looking one was used in title sequences and for promotion pictures.

    Guys most of the questions which are now being asked such as did Bond use a silver PPK were previously discussed & answered earlier in this very thread! :s

    Screen used gun. Copy not even close! Remember the PPKS was a completely fabricated weapon not a set of grips fitted to a practical weapon -{

    Sometimes with this collectng milarky you know you will never get screen used do you go without or the next best thing - each to his own. Be interested to see what it could look like though. There is also a dude selling red unfinished versions 3D printed but bit beyond my modelling skills and patience! Would pay him to do it for me if he could :D

    My kids are the same ask rather than RTFM! 8-)

    Edit: Crap I am equally as guilty with the hand grip post! Must be a man thing we never RTFM! :D

    Very impressive on both counts and I was expecting more for the PPK grips to be honest. Actually quiet reasonable.

    That's why I passed on ordering a pair, it's a valiant effort, but not quality enough I'd pay for it

    Absolutely get a copy of The Most Famous Gun! I'm thinking of ordering the other cover just because this one is getting so much use, and I've only had it for about a month

    Yeah going through it in chapters myself. Only like all my book reading I started at the back and worked forward!
    To me it is interesting to see the move away from live to manufactured versions as you get more up to date, PPKS being a classic example. So iconic but not even metal what is the world coming too!

    BTW out of sheer interest I have messaged the QM about the PPKS grips via FB to see if they are still a possibility - once the curiosity is pricked and all that as I found the below link from a few years back

    That's original production artwork there.

    Seriously, don't buy one of QM's PPK/S replicas, to say they are bad is an understatement :)) That red one on Ebay is crap too.

    The red kit on eBay doesn't look too bad. I have some experience casting molds. It might be worth purchasing, cutting it up and casting the grips in rubber. I just wonder how close in dimension that is to a real PPK

    So, 2 questions for the board.
    1. Has anyone identified the PEQ box from the opening scene of Spectre?

    2. The Skyfall grips look like they could be made by modifying a set of Pachmayr PPK grips. If anyone has a really good reference, I'll except the challenge
  • BCFDRayBCFDRay Joppa, MarylandPosts: 373MI6 Agent
    Never mind, checked the TMFG, it's bespoke

    To be honest, making grips that fit on a PPK will never look right. To make an accurate model that looks and feels as good as teh screen one, you would have to remove substantial material from the pistol frame. Production made grips that fitted on a practical PPK, but DC hated them as they were bulky and didn't look too good. Here is the rubber and resin version they made. The resin one was briefly seen on screen when he first activates it in the car. But that's the only time.

    Rubber left and resin right I am guessing. I think perfection maybe nearly impossible. But close too may be acceptable for some. I was thinking it also depends on level of detail required. Rubber would probably have more give to fit more PPK hand grips and maybe thinner to cover existing. Against resin more solid, less flexible and give, would require removal of originals but could accommodate LEDs etc.

    Just pie in the sky out loud thinking - my motto 'Never say, Never and if there is a will there is a way' :D

    Life is too boring otherwise

    I had a stab at the PPK/s, took an umarex co2 ppk/s, removed the grips, cnc milled a pair of replacement grips, laser engraved a rubber insert and wrapped it round the cnc milled parts, got the fit spot on, even some space spare for the led.

    Then got chance to see pics of a real one and realised how far out I was. Instant bin fodder.

    Trust me, you'll not get a screen accurate PPK/s other than making it from the ground up, there's nothing on the market that you can modify and still have functioning.

    Hope no one minds this question but ...

    I've been studying firearms for over half a century now and until I received the Most Famous magazine had never seen the word "practical" attached to a firearm. I see now that ASP9mm is even using it ... someone care to enlighten me?
  • Asp9mmAsp9mm Over the Hills and Far Away.Posts: 7,541MI6 Agent
    It's just a way to differentiate a real gun from a PAK or Rubber or resin stunt gun. It's what they call them in the film industry. Not just applied to guns, but other working props. The reason being, the main close up working props are usually referred to as 'hero's', but with firearms you can have hero resin guns too.

    Top tip;

    You can always tell the heros props apart from other versions as they have their pants on the outside.

    Without letting this thread derail into a political dump, the Skyfall PPK/S has been ruined for me mainly because biometric pistols have long been an ideal of the 'anti-gun' crowd in the US. Example:

    http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/future_tense/2012/11/skyfall_someone_should_make_james_bond_s_biometric_walther_ppk_s_gun.html

    The most thought-provoking area of the article is in the FB comments, which discuss pros and cons of implementing the technology based on today's technological strengths and weaknesses.
    I edit, therefore I am.

    I don't like the idea of owning a firearm with a biometric lock to protect myself and family, simply because technology can fail. I refuse to buy a biometric safe for the same reasons, but as a Bond prop, it's pretty cool
