Are all light infantry troops called "jagers" in Finland and everyone else is on Sisis and other armoured vehicles? Here most of the infantry are transfered to armoured vehicles, but that's a new reform. Earlier most were on BVs and trucks. Jegers were more or less recon and SF.
We have three special forces units. The navy has Navy jegers (MJK) attack divers: Marinejegerkommandoen - Wikipedia. One of their two garnisons is perhaps the SF base that's furthest north in the world, north of almost all of Finland.
The army has Defence Special Commando (FSK). The main unit is a professional SAS type unit where the soldiers are called special jegers. Forsvarets Spesialkommando - Wikipedia
The FSK has sub-unit called Fallskermjeger, a LRRP conscript unit. This was a independent unit earlier. The Fallskjermjeger now includes a very small troop of girls.
All army conscripts are nowadays called "Jääkäri" or Jaeger, no matter which army unit they serve in, instead of private or somesuch. This is blasphemy! In my time Jaeger was a member of a unit of Jaegers, battalion, regiment or a brigade. There were only 2 independent Jaeger Battalions, the Paras and us in Helsinki.
As for units we have 2 Jaeger Regiments and 1 Jaeger Brigade: Utti JR, which is the home of the airborne and SF, Guard JR, who are the specialists in MOUT and MP operations and in charge of the defense of Helsinki. My old battalion is now part of the Guard JR. EDIT: I almost forgot the Guard JR is also known as the home of the "Urban Jaeger" 🤣
Then there is the Jaeger Brigade; the specialists in operating in the challenging environment that is the Lapland: "The Jaeger Brigade specialises in training soldiers for the harsh climate of Lapland. The brigade is also responsible for developing arctic warfare tactics and equipment in cooperation with Swedish and Norwegian arctic forces. Their expertise in cold-weather warfare is widely recognized; members of the U.S. and other militaries come to Sodankylä in winter to learn from them." -Wikipedia.

The largest jeger units we have are only company sized. We only have one brigade now plus a few independent units. I don't mean jeger units - that's our whole army .....
With perfect timing the first P-8 Poseidon surveilance plane for the Norwegian Air Force landed in the country today. But the reason I posted it was the illustration on the tail! 😀
It gets even cooler. The surveilance plane is so large it's based on a Boing 737, it can drop torpedoes, it's named after the Norse god Thor and it looks like this on the inside:
The Saint symbol. I have seen this on some documentary film of Spitfires in WW2, it was painted on the front of the aircraft. The symbol must have been used for a long time before even Simon Templer was invented.
Simon Templar first appeared in the Saint Meets the Tiger in 1928!
I cant remember if the symbol is mentioned in that book, but Templar is definitely leaving behind his calling card in the followup volume Enter the Saint 1930, and the logo appears somewhere on almost every book cover. and while it may seem so simplistic a design as to have been round forever, Leslie Charteris was diligent about copywriting elements like that. I bet theres an article somewhere online just about the history of that symbol
I did not think The Saint was so old! I just presumed he was from the 1950s. Though 16 squadron started to use the symbol in WW1. I wonder if Charteris saw that symbol in books about the war? It would be interesting to know. I have found this picture of 16 squadron. I'm not sure how old it is (though I know it's not WW1!)
Cold Response, the largest NATO excersise in Norway since Soviet times, has started. 25 countries including Sweden and Russia take part with 30 000 soldiers and planes and navy vessels, Don't worry Russia . NATO never pretends to have excersises to invade other countries!
AJB member Joshua is a private and modest man, but we know he has some military experience. I have now been able to find out more. My research mainly found anecdotal evidence and from oral, mostly sung, sources. What really surprised me is that Joshua's mother was a nun!
It turnes out Joshua played a key role in the siege of the city Jerico. Jerico! Yes, Jerico! Aparently the men of Gideon and Saul were also involved, but Joshua distinguished himself. Joshua was confident enough to state "the battle is in my hand!" in spite of only being armed with old, some would even say absolute, weapons.
Like in all wars verifiable information is hard to find. We don't know excatcly what happened during the battle. There's rumours Joshua used psycological warfare techiques not too different from when the US Army played hard rock music at high volume during the siege of Sadam's sons' compound. We don't know what music genere Joshua prefered, but we know he used horns. it must have worked, because the walls came tumbling down! It may sound incredible, but my main source repeats this many times.
I could tell you about this but I would have to kill you to stop you from telling any one else!
All I can say at this time that is I played the trumpet - it was the James Bond theme - and managed to take the objective single handed (the rumour about all the horns is false!)
The story was heard about in America where the film makers turned me into the character for 'Rambo Last Blood'.
NATO says it can't guarantee assistance to non-members Sweden and Finland in case of war there. This must be very worrying news for Sweden .... 😎
( I should explain to non-Nordic people: When the Soviet Union collapsed everyone but Finland decided not to have a military capable of resisting an invasion. The sizes of the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian armies are riddiculous in a sad way. But Denmark doesn't have a big, expansionist country on it's doorstep anymore and Norway is a NATO member. Sweden discovered a month ago that they are in deep sh*t and decided to get a real military ASAP.)
The US armed forces has chosen a completely new rifle and light machine gun for the first time since the Vietnam war, and fancy new sights and sound suppressors for everyone too. They are called XM-5 and XM-250 and the guns are developed by foreigners in Sig-Sauer. This is a big move. Comments?

It turns out the Norwegian Air force 333 Squadron has used the Saint symbol for decades. Here's the old P-3 Orion surveilance planes:
And here's a field near their base where there's also a base for space rockets (the Norwegian space program is more advanced than the British one 😀)
We're a NATO member and next month about 40 000 NATO troops arrive to learn winter warfare. I feel safe.
Australia also has a quite well developed space program... https://spaceaustralia.com.au/

I just looked on the internet and found that the saint symbol is used by 16 squadron of the RAF and was used from WW1!

note in the comments someone asks about the RAF's use of the logo

Russia....? They still have troops left, or are these reservists/conscripts? 😈

Can Josha himself confirm or deny on this new information, or is is still classified? 😄

Does this mean the recently released photos from the DoD that they claim shows the battle may be fake?
Russia! I've made a dreadful mista..... I mean, Russian hackers must've hacked my AJB account!!
I actually wrote "Sweden and Finland" you understand. Russian hackers, that's what happened. 😉
🤣 Russia and mista.... hacking and fake news seems to be the prevailing theme nowadays.
-Mr Arlington Beech
Yes those photographs are fake!
And very obviously fake!
Because every one in them is white!
To the casual observeres those photos probably look real, but I too noticed you weren't in them. Given your central role I found it suspucious!

A Swede over at the Other Place posted that his countrymen look at Finland's military much like the Black Watch in GoT 😂
NATO excersises are a part of normal life in the north of Norway. 😀
More photos from the current Cold Resolve exercise in the north of Norway. Looks bondian I think.

Given they couldn't develop the gun themselves, does this suggest the gradual decline of US military self-sustainability?
Not by foreigners. SIG Sauer Inc. formerly known as SIGARMS is a US company and organizationally separate from SIG Sauer GmbH.
-Mr Arlington Beech
I knew I was wrong about something. I just didn't know about what and how. 😁
Anyway, it's a major move. A new calibre and a gun sight out of a 1990's sci-fi movie.
