I have a professional alarm system which has been wired when we built the house.

Had lots of consulting by the police and by traditional alarm guys before I gave the order.

First line of action will be to check your windows and dorrs. Because if burglars are faced with resistence, they often let go and try the next home :D

Next step will be to decide which alarm system is appropriate and what happens, if the alarm is triggered.
IMO, it does not make sense when you
    1. make it too easy to enter your home with weak windows
    2. then watch the burglars on your CCTV when they raid your home and you are too far away to do something against it.

You may see some faces after the deed (unless they steal your taping device) but your stuff is gone.

I'd chose a different line of action.

Higgins makes valid points, secure windows and doors, locked side gates, gravel driveways and paths and security lights all contribute to security. If you want to go down the cctv route there are wireless versions that work well, and also can connect to your phone when a connected door bell or gate entry is pressed. A word of caution though most are WiFi, so are open to hacking and corrupting.
If you have security concerns/ live somewhere that has seen a spate of burglary, simple things such as not keeping regular leaving arriving times, light timers that come on at different times in different rooms ( change the sequence regularly) and leaving different curtains in different positions daily, leaving a radio on tuned to a station that has majority talk all will help to make a burglar uncertain.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

I live on a gated community (it's called a sub-division here). We have a 24-hour guarded entrance with the perimeter alarmed. All the houses also have built-in alarm systems. Apart from residents and staff, no visitors gain entrance without a call first being made to the house where the visitors are supposed to be expected. It's an unfortunate necessity but nice to know that safety is assured.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Happily, I'm very poor with nothing worth stealing :D if someone broke into
    My house, they'd leave a donation. :D
