Hi we'll be training Edinburgh to Cardiff any suggestions for stop offs on the way appreceated. A couple of years ago we trained Edinburgh to London and stopped off for a couple of hours in York which whole family thought was wonderful.
The Edinburgh Cardiff trip over 6 hours but will be going in summer so looking for something interesting to break the trip. Any suggestions appreceated I thought some ideas would come from a google search but so far no luck.

Don't know if you're renting a car or not, but my husband and I drove through Lake District National Park during our honeymoon last October. It's a slight detour but very beautiful drive during the day. We started from the north (we were coming back from Loch Ness) and went south and we stopped at Cumbria Crystal to purchase tumblers (featured in Casino Royale). :))

We also stopped at Stratford-upon-Avon (home of Shakespeare) and drove by Warwick Castle.

Well your journey time is over 7 hours, where are you stopping? I'm guessing you will be passing through York again or Leeds? then onto Birmingham? If you stop off in Leeds you have some world class restaurants, shopping galore in and around the renovated victorian shopping arcades known as the victorian quarter, where you'll find Harvey Nichols amongst others, a short walk from the train station past the waterside and granary wharf ( which has some lovely cafes and bars) there is the royal armouries, which houses a vast collection of weapons from the royal armory in London, but has displays of all kinds of weapons and militaria from walther ppk's to medieval maces, also jousting and falconry.
You may be stopping at Sheffield? Peak District is beautiful. But you'd need a car.
Birmingham has various museums, and Dudley zoo plus more miles of canals than Venice so plenty of cruises available.
If you can let us know your trains itinerary maybe have more suggestions.
Glad you enjoyed York I live 10 minutes outside of York.
It was either that.....or the priesthood
