Diamonds Are Forever Terrycloth shirt in PTS

I'm really liking the terrycloth short sleeve shirt that Connery wears at the beginning of DAF.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about where I could buy something similar?

LOVE the subject line. Nice to see some non-Craig clothing posts.

. . . But could this shirt be the precursor to the Madagascar shirt? :)

I love this post too. The old items are my specialty and passion for certain. The most Bond associated place to get a shirt like this would be Orlebar Brown. They are renowned for their Terrycloth polos, are connected to Bond via Skyfall, and make AMAZING clothing. They have a shirt here:

    http://www.orlebarbrown.com/us/men/shirts/travis/260479.html?dwvar_260479_color=57#start=33&cgid=towelling

Unfortunately, the right color is not available.

If your ok with updating the look to a polo, they offer many colors in polo form:

I'm not sure I see the connection to the Madagascar shirt Craig wore in CR. The closest shirt to the Madagascar shirt is the DAD shirt Brosnan wore; he even wears his floral print shirt in a similar way, with a shirt underneath:

I put together a frugal version of this outfit, but I don't have any pictures unfortunately. I'll throw it on tomorrow and take a pic or two to give you an idea of how this outfit can work. It's one of my favorites!

I though Brosnan's shirt was hideous at the time, but in comparison to Craig's it's tasteful! Connery's isn't any better, though it's not the worst terrycloth thing he's worn...

The playsuit is hard to pull off. It's very similar to the pajamas the novel Bond prefered; I wonder if that played any part in its use in the film. I think James Boldman on here has some good shots of him wearing something similar, and he rocks it man! Not something I could pull off though. I'm going with an OB Terry polo and cobalt OB setters to update this look.

Fleming described Bond's pyjamas as a coat. I don't think he wore a playsuit. I think it was more like a shorter dressing gown with short sleeves. But it came down to the knees, unlike the playsuit in Goldfinger.

Absolutely correct Matt. Not sure why I pictured it as a sort of playsuit type of pajamas:

"Bond had always disliked pyjamas and had slept naked until in Hong Kong at the end of the war he came across the perfect compromise. This was a pyjama-coat which came almost down to the knees. It had no buttons, but there was a loose belt round the waist. The sleeves were wide and short, ending just above the elbow. The result was cool and comfortable"

    Just sounds like a short sleeve robe to me. Glad that's clarified for me now. I love when things change in my mind like this and I get a clearer picture of things. -{

I actually own one of the Orlebar Brown terrycloth polos in sky blue. I love it, although I would only recommend wearing it around the water. It's a bit difficult to pull off elsewhere. OB makes great stuff. Many of their clothes have a very vintage feel to them.

Nice! I have wondered how difficult it will be to pull off the terrycloth thing outside the pool/beach. It definately will come down to personal taste and style and what one can pull off. Very much agree, they make fantastic quality clothing. I want the terry polo in sky blue as well, but they don't make them anymore and I need an XS, so hard to find. But, they have a "Riviera" color that will have to do:

That's pretty much the look I'm going for with the polo and setters.

Yeah, you might have gotten the Riviera one. They made a sky one back in the day that can still be found at department stores and such. The riviera is quite a different color, but it will do.

Interesting, I went the other way, navy terry polo with sky blue setters, both have now passed away through a lot of use. I replaced the setters with the Sunspel connery shorts and the ob terry with an ob storm.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Yes I own this one too. It goes well with the blue Sunpel TB Connery swim shorts that I have.

Good shout. I already own the skyblue terry polo. I was just hoping I could find something beige and patterned, like Connery is wearing.

As promised, my version of this outfit. Pardon the photo quality, as I am packing for an out of town trip and just snapped some pics quickly. It really should be considered just as a proof of concept version, as I hate the ASOS shirt and it's not terrycloth:

    IMG_0821.jpg

Ideally, I'm probably going to be looking for a shirt with more contrast to the pants. The shirt I am wearing is ecru and was my YOLT shirt, but I really don't like it.The pants are the pants I use for my TB outfit:

    IMG_0807.jpg

Another great Connery outfit that uses sandals. I even got the tailor to cut the bottom of the pants with the slit like Connery's.

    Hope this helps {[]
