No doubt, come the day of voting ,instead of making it a public holiday so every one can vote ,no every one will have to go to work ,and when they all get home at 8pm ,due to train strikes ect ,and then cant be bothered to go out to vote ,and when only 60 % of the population turns out to vote ,some idiot in the government will say "OH why did we have such a low turn out that's not the result we wanted ,and then it all goes wrong again like the brexit vote .

There is a theory, that instead of trying to get round the iceberg. If they had have
Rammed it straight on, they would have been damaged, but would have stayed
Afloat.

It's a while before the UK election, but the French one is tomorrow. The first round, at least. It seems FN and Le Pen will make it to the next round. What then? It seems likely that many of the people who voted for one of the losers in the first round will vote for whoever is running against Le Pen in the second. But as the US election showed us anything can happen.
It seems like Macron and Le Pen will be the winners of the first round. That should be interesting: a centerist EU enthusiast who supports immigration vs a far right anti-EU and anti-immigration candidate!
One has to wonder what happens if FN wins and she takes France out of the Union. The UK and France are about one quarter of the current EU economy. Can the Union even survive Frexit?
This is really hard for me to say, Barbel, but you may have to shut down this thread. As you can see above we have all been at each other's throats all evening, trading insults in a very heated debate. If the quarrel doesn't calm down and emotions spill into the other threads the entire AJB007 might be in danger. :v

I spotted somewhere that UKIP want to do away with Postal votes. I can see why.
Just started getting all the unwanted gumph about the parties for the local election.
They were too late! I posted my vote on Thursday before any of it arrived!
Here's hoping the General Election blurb is late as well.
Oh and UKIP (as a party) can burn in Hell as far as I'm concerned.
Of course had they actually paid attention to the ice warnings...

What do you think?
Anything just did happen! Main parties out and France will be governed by a brand new party or the front nationale! The wind of change is definitely blowing accross the world.
I think many voters are finally sick of being lied to, and treated like mindless sheep !
I'm not saying the new team will be any better, but at last the other Politicians
Know , not to take the public for granted any more.

This is true, but I never thought I'd see a main political party called the national front. Obviously they are nothing like the UK namesake...... I hope.

From what I understand, they've the same ideologies.

There is clearly a rebellion against the traditional parties in many countries. Many people feel the politicians are out of touch with ordinary people, and I can't say they're wrong. Especially when it comes to immigration, integration into the common marked and globalisation I wonder if many politicians have just sprinten o off without checking if the people are with them.
How many countries in the West have the same political parties dominating national politics as they did ten or twenty years ago? The US don't count since they have a two-party system and Trump had to use one of the existing parties. In any other country he would have started a new party. Here in Norway the right-wing Progress Party (left of the Democrats in anything but immigration, I guess) are in the government. They have been a medium-sized party since the 80's, but they weren't allowed to govern until four years ago.
In Sweden the SD is a large party, but the traditional parties won't touch them. In Iceland the traditional parties took a major hit after the banking crash and new parties are popular. I'm not sure about Finland, but I think the far-right True Fins have gained votes, but not government power. Most political parties in Denmark have chosen a restrictive immigration policy. The right-wing DF are popular, but they have elected not to take part in the government.
Please add to the lust ...... damn it, Autocorrect, I wrote 'list' !
Yesterday I was in Aviemore, and today Jeremy Corbyn was there addressing the Scottish Labour Party- am glad my schedule didn't match his! Not for any political reasons, purely for traffic purposes.
The French should be leading the way for us on this issue, instead their politicians get caught swindeling (spelling?) public money for their wives and daughters. They should be breaking the law to pay for their mistresses - it's their patriotic duty!

As I've told you before, the US has more than two political parties. People just tend to vote for the two major parties. The parties we have now haven't always been around, which means that they were able to overcome other parties. It could happen again. Trump realised that to be guaranteed the most success, he'd have to infiltrate one of the two major parties. Trump could have run as an independent the same way the Ross Perot did in 1992. Perot was considered a major candidate in that election, despite not being part of the two major parties, and got a decent number of votes. Parties and presidents don't gain control in the US the same way they might in other countries.
.... and corporate leaders and bankers.
But when politicians swindle they should at least do it in a patriotic way. American politicians should to it to get their company and themselves richer (I suspect that part is well in hand :v), The French should do it to pay for their mistresses and Norwegians to help their union or party. It's the proper way :007)

Yes I know. But no other parties matter on a national level. Ross ran, Nader ran, Teddy Roosevelt ran for the Know Nothing Party. None of them won. No-one has ever been elected president from any other party since the two parties were formed. Has any other party been important in Congress for the last hundred years? I would actually like to know that...
Is this REALLY the opposition? While out in Leeds I was witness to a political protest march, what made me take notice most was along with the Labour flags and banners was the almost equal amount of hammer and sickle flags and communism politik flags. whats more worrying is the chant of " dont let our country waste away tax the rich make them pay"

What's wrong with taxing the rich? It seems common sense.

They already make more substantial contribution through the tax system, but as happened before this kind of policy just doesn't work or benefit the country, it stifles entrepreneurism and many wealthier people will just up sticks and move elsewhere. It's a policy that also devastates middle sized companies, as owners of a lot of these companies find themselves being taxed to high heaven which they view as a punishment for hard work and older md's will shut up shop and retire possibly creating job losses. Of course one of the biggest results of such policies is resentment and further class divide.
We have an opposition who want to build 1 million new council houses, increase benefits paid, tax those who work more.... Sounds like a terrific way to move forward. Society should help the helpless but we should no way have to pay for the workshy.
About one third of benefits is paid out to people who aren't entitled to it, single mothers who get payments and bills paid who actually live with their boyfriends, people who work for cash but don't declare it and then receive payments, inappropriate disability payments for the perfectly able.
I'm sick of the complete misrepresentation the socialists put across, union leaders who live in a council house despite earning £70k a year, because they're " entitled to it" Ken Livingstone leaving part of his rare wine collection behind in the mayors office with one particular bottle worth over a thousand pounds. Champagne socialists, yes let them run the country
8-)
Just because your Conservative government is unable to identify properly who is and who is not entitled to benefits properly doesn't mean that those who can pay taxes should not. I very much doubt those under the hammer and sickle flags demand the rich to pay any more than just fair share in taxes. The basic rule is, the richer you are, the more responsibility you have for those less fortunate.
