MeToo... though perhaps that's appropriate as now it seems that at Chantilly May Day is intervening to save the young Stacey Sutton from the lecherous and just plain wrong advances of the elderly Moore.
They should have got Ray Charles to play May Day... 'Now I know where I saw him! He was the man at the Eiffel Tower!' D'oh! It was only a few days ago. I suppose she was running away at the time.
'Speaks several languages, no accent.' Not American then?
Still, good stuff, flows very well and lovely bits of humour such as when Bond switches the tapes on Paula (Fiona Fullerton) and her boss. Must say, the exterior of that sleazy looking sauna club didn't match the inside.
Moore did look cool a lot of the time, and his eyebrow raise in M's office is actually pure Connery from NSNA.
AVTAK last night, this morning TSWLM and in the afternoon FYEO. I'm having a Roger Moore day -{ " it's simply the best '
Tonight it will be LALD.
Awesome!!!!
Last night I watched DAF with my girlfriend. I was a little hesitant/embarrassed to watch this one together, but it went over pretty well actually. She thought it was really funny and entertaining, with the exception of the boring car chase.
She was wondering about the roll of toilet paper next to the chair Bond lands in? I had no answer for that one as it didn't look like a toilet.
My current 10 favorite:
1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
since Willard Whyte is modelled on Howard Hughes, we should consider ourselves lucky it's just a roll of toilet paper we see in his office ensuite, and not a collection of mason jars.
the movie holds sentimental value as I watched the midnight showing immediately upon its release, and immediately before my first son was born (he was born 3 hours after the film ended, ha!).
its a fantastic film, very different from conventional Bond film...and watching it makes me wonder why Sam Mendes couldnt transfer the magic over to Spectre (a great film too, just not quite as...something...)
Spectre. I was at work late one night and had nothing better to do.
Goddamn, I cannot believe that I forgot just how terrible this movie is.
It starts out sweet enough, terrific cold-open, time pissing off M, second only time we've ever seen Bond's home...and then it goes to ****.
The umbrella theme of global government surveillance is relevant but beaten over the head.
Spectre exists?! That's awesome, way to take it back to the originals! Oh, their entire mission is take over all security cameras over the globe and destroy the life of ONE government asset? That's a bit ridiculous.
Blofeld is back?! Sweet! Oh, he's the step brother of James Bond? DA F***?!
Mr. White came back and that's the one character that's exclusive to the Craig films that I actually like and I appreciate. Kudos on that.
Craig makes love to Monica Bellucci's character; this makes no sense to me at all.
Dave Bautista is awesome in this, as he is in most things...and then they try to make him the new Jaws and I'm disappointed once again.
Bond shoots a gun...from a plane he's flying...at the villian's car...that has the woman he's trying to save INSIDE OF IT!
There is a train fight...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Finally, I am mostly disappointed by the liberties they took with Bond's past. Making Blofeld Bond's step brother is one thing but removing Miss Charmian as the person that raises him is worse. Bond's aunt could be such an awesome, bad-ass, female role model and they blatantly remove her from the entire mythos.
I hate to say it but...I'd rather watch Never Say Never Again than Spectre.
I hate to say it but...I'd rather watch Never Say Never Again than Spectre.
that is awesome, since SPECTRE is what the official franchise chose to do with McClory's intellectual properties once they finally won back the legal rights once and for all...
Other than Blofeld, the white cat, a funeral, and a version of the meeting scene, they threw out all the elements of Thunderball they'd fought so long to regain, and instead replaced it all with the plot of the weakest Austin Powers movie.
Like compare with the Masterpiece Theatre style reverence of the Casino Royale adaptation, the other intellectual property they waited decades to finally win for themselves.
But when it comes to McClory's properties, they are essentially saying not only is this not worthy of the same reverence, but in fact we'd rather adapt a parody of all those ideas.
Also I see you're a brand new agent. Come tell us all about your first two kills, previously undisclosed missions, and character revealing backstory in the Welcome & Comings & Goings thread.
Thunderball and wow, that one grew one me. I used to not like it that much when I was younger but now -{ Volpe and Domino were always top notch, but the colours, the John Barry score and Connery was great. Maybe he was even better than in Goldfinger, not by his performance but he has to do more things than just chilling around a ranch. Great watch and flew right up in my ranking! Really felt like I watched a different movie than I used to do.
Don't confuse me with the other DutchBondFan, but be sure to follow his YouTube account. You can read my articles on James Bond Nederland: www.jamesbond.nl/author/gosse/

Thanks for the suggestion! I just posted there, have a look.
Now here's a thing - Although I prefer Spectre to Never Say Never Again, I genuinely enjoyed that year's Mission Impossible movie, Rogue Nation, more than I did the Bond, which is a thing that should not happen.

HAHA that's pretty funny. I agree that should never happen. I stopped watching the MI series after Ghost Protocol. They're just a bit outrageous, and Tom Cruise doesn't even look like he's acting anymore, he looks like he's completely checked out.
The last two MI movies were incredible. I'd take them over any of Craig's Bond films, though I've still watched Craig's Bond films more times.
I agree, they were brilliant films. I think the Bond producers should be very thankful they’re not competing with MI: Fallout in 2019.
They are very good and certainly trump Bond in terms of exciting action. I still don't care two figs about Ethan Hunt though or know what motivates him, or particularly care what happens to him. My fear is that I'm starting to feel the same way about Bond.
Of that of which we cannot speak we must pass over in silence- Ludwig Wittgenstein.
Still my favourite of Sir Rog's era - so many iconic elements to it that people identify with Bond; jump off the cliff, submersible car, Jaws and the huge tanker set.
It dropped in my opinion in recent years, but I really came to love it again during this viewing. Still love the car chase near the beginning and despite qualms with Sir Rog's appearance in the past, he's in fine form here.
After watching James Bond radio review Licence To Kill, i decided to watch the film. Not one of my favourites, but there are still things that i like about the film. Robert Davi and Benicio Del Toro, make the perfect pair of villains! I like the protogee/mentor relationship they have. Sanchez was brilliantly written. I liked how charming he could be if you were on his good side and how he could flip as well. I liked how loyalty was his achillies heel and Bond exploited it to destroy his organisation from the inside. Anthony Zerbe is excellent as Krest. The scene where he tries to tell Sanchez about how the money was stolen, is terrifying. To Sanchez, Krest's story sounds like crap, even though it's the truth.
Gladys Knight's theme is excellent! I liked how they reference Goldfinger, with the opening horns. Knight sings the song with gusto.
Pam and Lupe make gorgeous Bond girls. I like how tough Pam Bouvier is. She doesn't take Bond's crap. Talisa gets a loypt of flack as Lupe, but she plays the tortured mistress angle very well.
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"
For Your Eyes Only, prior to meeting Cassandra Harris' stunt double Cyd Child at an Avengers event at the weekend. Cyd and her husband were charming dinner companions and she spoke of how dangerous the stunt was of being hit by the dune buggy, as the costume was so brief she couldn't wear padding. As it transpired her head hit the windscreen so hard she needed stitched and the windscreen broke!
Also, Cassandra Harris' lighting double, a local girl, refused to wear the costume as it was so brief and transparent!
Cyd was a pioneer of female stunt work in Britain, as well as being an international-standard Judo competitor. Her first experience as a stunt-woman was doubling for Diana Rigg on the colour episodes of The Avengers. Before she joined the series Rigg was being doubled by a man!
Caught about half an hour of Never Say Never Again on ITV4 - what a beautifully photographed film! The casino scenes are just stunning and I would go so far as to say Douglas Slocombe's cinematography is some of the best, and unheralded, of the 1980s.
Enjoying DAF at the moment -{ trying to count all the "Doubles"
From two sets of double killers. Wint & Kidd / Bambi & Thumper.
Blofeld also having a double. Even most of the sets, Bond's hotel
Room, Blofeld's Control room and Willard Whyte's penthouse. All
Are built on two levels. Two "Transformation " scenes one with
Blofeld, the other with the girl who becomes a gorilla.........
" the list Is endless "
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Skyfall - I'm taking my son through the Craig era Bonds as unfortunately, those are the only ones he's interested in. While I do like it, my son loved it- more than CR in fact. Spectre is up next.
I look for a reason to like them all, that being said- my current favorites by actor
Connery- FRWL Dalton- TLD
Lazenby - I'll go with OHMSS Brosnan- GE
Moore- FYEO Craig- CR
GoldenEye - Second time seeing it since I bought the BluRay and had a couple friends over to enjoy. This is my favorite Brosnan and always takes me back to playing the Nintendo 64 game with my friends well into the night. Good times! -{
I have to mention- the car chase with Bond and Xenia could have been so much more with just about any other music than what they chose. In fact- with a Ferrari 355, one could argue that no additional music is required- it's a symphony on its own!

I can't tell if you're joking. There are a few lines about it! Where I'm from, we used to call it a "John", just like Willard Whyte does.

Atom we actually have a thread called Does anyone regard 'Never Say Never Again' as better than Bonds 1-24?. You may be the first to actually answer yes!
