I agree. I thought the Skyfall score was very good indeed and was looking forward to his work
on Spectre. Infact I defended Newman in an argument or two over his upcoming score for
Spectre. Sadly I was wrong the score is a total "copy and paste" job. Please get Arnold Back !
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I understand that since Spectre followed Skyfall musically it makes sense that a lot of themes from Skyfall are reused. But man half of Spectre's score is literally copy and pasted from Skyfall. And it only makes me think of the corresponding scene from Skyfall. Definitely one of the laziest score's I've ever heard.
I agree -{ only bond already had a theme that has been reused since Dr No, only Newman decided to pretty much ignore it.
Especially the scene towards the end when "the moors" is reprised for an extended period when Bond's going through the disused MI6 building. Every time I hear it I just think I would rather be watching Bond running through the Moors in Skyfall right now opposed to this.

Its very distracting and does the movie no favours. Let's hope the new director brings back Arnold and he carries on from the brilliant qos score.
The problem with wanting a different director because you don't like his collaborators (Mendes/Newman) is that you get into a "be careful what you wish for" situation. Many of us would be happy to have Martin Campbell do another, but he was also the one who once brought in Eric Serra to score...

Good point, well made.

The poll has been running for a week and 61 members have voted so far. If you haven't voted yet, please feel free to vote in the future.
It seems many members prefer what's tested and familiar. Martin Cambell had a solid lead until yesterday, and ended up with 15 votes.
But many supporters of Sam Mendes voted in the last 24 hours and he ended up with 14 points. So almost half the votes were for directors who have made succesful Bond movies in the past.
Both Christopher Nolan and Mathew Waughn got 8 points and share third place. Danes seem to be popular, since both Susanne Bier and Nicolas Winding Refn got three votes. Yann Demange, Denis Villeneuve and Kathryn Bigelow all got two points.
Peter Weir, David Fincher, David Yates and Christopher McQuire got one vote each. The rest got no votes.
This time I voted for Christopher Nolan, but after much doubt. A part of me wanted a movie from someone who isn't a star, such as Ben Wheatly, Denis Villeneuve, Steve McQeen, James March or Joe Wright.
I understand why so many people want Cambell or Mendes to make more Bond movies. All their Bond movies have been good and CR is a modern classic. But in my opinion Campbell has made few too many bad movies such as Green Lantern and Beyond Borders. You simply don't know if his films will be good or bad.
Mendes can be trusted to make quality movies every time. I guess he's not the only one to blame, but SPECTRE made far too much of the "everything is about Bond's past and family". He is responsibility for using too much yellow colour correction.

My vote was for Susanne Bier. The Night Manager displays a talent for the broader genre, and pacing. Give her an experienced 2nd Unit director and let her go.

I'm just glad you chose her not because she's a woman! )

I would be perfectly happy to have Mendes back again, although I feel its unlikely he would do it*. I love his style and what he brought to the franchise personally, and that includes his musical collaborator Thomas Newman... I'll concede his SPECTRE ost was a little underwhelming. If he does does come back and he gets Deakins to return as DP (I love Hoytema's work too) I would be delighted!... Mendes, Newman and Deakins is something of a holy trinity of film-making for me.
I would also be delighted if Martin Campbell came back for another outing, but Mendes gets my vote
* I thought Craig was done too, but its looking increasingly likely he'll be back, so who knows?
Edit: to add... Susanne Bier would also be another great choice. The Night Manager was superb, and well above most 'made for TV' productions.
IMO, Mendes brought some great things to Skyfall but unfortunately SPECTRE, while not a disaster, fell short of expectations and was a squandered opportunity. I think Mendes' original gut feeling that he only had one Bond film in him might have been true. My preference would be for him not to return and new blood to be brought in. My choice would be Yann Damange but I'd also be fine with most of the younger directors mentioned here.
At the end of the day, I trust BB and MGW to pick a director from the list over me. I never would have chosen Sam Mendes for a Bond film back in the day and yet then he went on to make one of my favorite ones, so what do I know...

Yeah Mendes has said that he threw everything he could've wanted in a Bond film into Skyfall.

Now that is an interesting idea.

Denis Villenueve for sure. The way he builds tension in Sicario had me glued to the screen. He worked with Roger Deakins who I think masterfully filmed the movie.
So I feel like it would make sense to have Villenueve as director and bring back Roger Deakins from Skyfall as well.
While many memebers haven't voted yet, the most popular directors are without a doubt Mendes, Waughn, Campbell and Nolan.
After the announcement that Craig will return in Bond25, hopefully the next news will be the director.
Next news will be the director. If they really want to have Bond 25 ready in 2019 a director has been hired these days. Because I don't believe Craig agrees to do a Bond film without knowing who will direct it.

He would probably be fine but like you I'd rather someone new.

Not Villenueve, since the end of Arrival just went off the rails, storywise.
