Owning 007 Clothes Before The Movie

Have any of you been surprised to find out you owned a piece of clothing used in the movies before it was actually used in the movie?

Finding out it's going to be in the movie and then buying it doesn't count ;)

I can personally say it's never happened. The closest thing was an the Orlebar Brown Linen shirt used in Spectre but I bought that after the movie not knowing it was in the movie.

Close, I have worn TF Wayfares for years and in Spectre he wore a pair. Not the same type, but that is as close as I have come.

In truth I was just getting in to the DC / Bond clothes and think everyone in the cinema thought I was having a cardiac when I spotted them :))

Also church ryder, Sunspel riviera, orlebar brown swim shorts and omega watch. I've had loads of very similar things from different brands, like a fitted pea coat, Harrington and a shawl neck cardigan. I was delighted to see bond wearing a shawl neck twice in CR and the Sunspel riviera. Maybe one of the reasons Casino Royale reignited my love for bond? That and my pre bond fandom of Dc . But since then bond and Dc have cost me a lot of money.

Usually a Bond film introduces me to brands I've never heard of. But Spectre was the first time I wore a brand before I knew Bond did. I was already a big fan of and owned items from Thomas Pink and John Varavatos before the film came out.

I think maybe the experience is different depending where you live? A lot of people in the UK will have owned Barbour, crocket and Jones, churches, Sunspel Thomas Pink, Matchless, etc but aren't as aware of brands such as John Varvatos or Brunello Cuccinello for example. I got into orlebar brown after watching the talented Mr Ripley and loved the style of the shorts they wore, before Skyfall ob was a niche brand. I was aware of Tom Ford as I've worn the fragrances for years and the sunglasses but clothing in the UK is non existent outside of London or Harvey Nicholls. I also new of n peal before bond, purely as they have offices in Skipton in Yorkshire and I'd bought a scarf of theirs years and years ago, and sometimes strange things happen like me buying the n peal charcoal mock turtleneck after the first Spectre poster came out but before we knew it was an N peal item! Of course pre empting can be costly as myself and others found out when we bought the omega SM300 mca before the limited edition was announced then had to go buy another watch and when I say had to I mean simply HAD to 8-)

Rule is only to buy when sure, eg the moncler in Spectre

I was gutted to discover my Mango jacket (£19.99) wasnt the "Mr White" jacket, and even more gutted they'd gone for some cheap Dior knock off :))

I think Skyfall's wardrobe was a turning point for a lot of people especially on this forum. Perhaps more so then any other Craig film. It introduced so many British brands most of us outside of England had never heard of into staple brands of our wardrobe. Prior to 2012 I had never heard of N.Peal, Crockett and Jones, COS, All Saints, Dents, etc. but now I wear one of those brands almost daily.

    Actually, it happens with Skyfall.

Also the Bobby but in another color.

Well I had the SF assessment PT top before Bond it was issued to me 25 years prior (and the
Peltor ear defence) - if that counts

Everything else pretty much followed each film as it was released :D

Edit: Thinking about it QOS was the sartorial trigger for me if I am honest. CR definitely introduced me to the Planet Ocean but at the time 45mm was too large for me but the 42mm in QOS hit the spot perfectly.

    Cheers :007)
My name is Bond, Basildon Bond - I have letters after my name!

Definitely true for me! I'm better (dressed) and poorer for it.

Bond in general has made me a fanboy of British clothing. It's expensive but the quality has been evident on almost everything I've bought. What's important for me is that the clothes last a longtime. I don't buy styles I'm going to throw away after a year or two.

I'm with Sunspel for life. I'll always buy their Polos (riviera looks like it was bespoke made for me), I also own a couple of their T-shirts, and a tank. Ended up getting into Baracuta because of David's review and the Craig/McQueen collection. Recently bought the Matchless jacket and a Belstaff H-Racer and can't wait to try them on in person. Almost forgot Clarks as well. Other stuff as well...

Crockett and Jones is one I really want to try out but it's out of my budget range for a dress shoe. Still young, so hopefully when the career is farther along/wallet heavier I'll be rocking those as well. N.Peal has tempted me a lot but again the prices have kept me away. I'd have purchased N.Peal products, if I lived in a colder climate.

Honestly though, the grail brand that I'd love to be able to own one day is Turnbull & Asser. Hopefully, I'll be able to go to their London store one day and do their bespoke package. That way I can just call them up for the rest of my life and just order dress shirts perfectly tailored for me.

I had the Barbour from Skyfall before Skyfall. Alas, I had had to return it within hours of its arrival because it was too small and they never got any more sizes in stock. So, although I had it, it was literally only for a few hours. When it later transpired that the same jacket was used in Skyfall I was determined to get another one in the correct size, which I managed to do thanks to someone on AJB.
