Honestly, ferragamo is a fashion brand now and the quality reflects that. I'm not just just talking about materials, but fit and construction. For what you would pay for Ferragamos at, let's say 25% off retail on sale on a MSRP of $600, you could get some Alden handstitched loafers made in USA. Lots of options out there.
And, just in case you were wondering, I have had several pairs of Ferragamos in hand and compared them to other makers. For me, they're like a good Johnston and murphy shoe.
Hope that helps!
I agree about the quality of Ferragamo. They're not that special. But you can't compare their loafers to Alden's. The styles are completely different. Italian loafers are not my speciality, but any shoe that will have the Ferragamo look will have to be made in either Italy, Spain or Portugal. The English and the Americans cannot make such a shoe properly.
Sorry , I'll clarify: I was only comparing quality and fit at that price point, not style. I don't want to derail the conversation further, so I'll just add that there are plenty of brands that are doing similar styles (that are also made in Italy) at a lower price. Johnston and Murphy has their Italian made loafers on sale right now for about $200, and they come close in terms of looks.
Dirty Punker... on a side note... as a for what its worth for movie buffs .. (and you may know this already as it is fairly common knowledge for folks like us) Aldens has a direct connection to the Indiana Jones series.. Ford wore the Aldens 405 in all of the films.. granted, not a loafer.. but a cool movie connection to the brand.

Yeah, that was pretty cool.
A pretty badass boot but I don't really have an excuse to wear such a boot.
I'm enjoying this conversation but I hope this thread doesn't derail much further than that.
I'm an athlete, I run 4x400 / 4x200 relay races and play(ed) soccer professionally since 5. Not to mention the martial arts. That's why I almost only wear sports wear. I own a Tom Ford suit though, one. Tight fit like Craig's.
Of course in my job I don't wear PUMA clothes but my army uniforms.

You were paid to play football from age 5
I'm impressed -{
funny
I was in the youth division and didn't get paid, but sponsored. The payments started at a later age when I was a teenager
I could make a glib remark about the level of professional football in Switzerland. And a few years ago that would have been accurate. However, I'm Dutch and Switzerland has passed us on the FIFA rankings by now.
