Denis Villeneuve doesn't rule out Bond25, despite Dune and Cleopatra. The Bond comments come just before the end of the article, which is about Bladerunner 2049.

    http://montrealgazette.com/feature/denis-villeneuve-on-the-cutting-edge
“I like talking about projects when they’re done,” he said. “Now I have to talk about them before they’re even begun.

“It’s true — I’ve been in discussions with (producer) Barbara Broccoli and (actor) Daniel Craig. It’s a magnificent project; I would love to do a James Bond, but I don’t know how it would fit with my current projects. We’ll have to see.”

In the meantime, he has a movie to put out. Blade Runner 2049’s world première takes place Oct. 3 in Los Angeles.

And for those of you that can read French, a tweet about a French language radio station interview Villeneueve did:

So basically he's saying if schedules allow he'd do Bond 25, br2049 is getting good reviews so far, Denis is hot property.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Which would likely mean a Zimmer/Wallfisch Bond score.

Which would likely mean a Zimmer/Wallfisch Bond score.

That might be a better option to Newman coming back. From what I have read, Zimmer/Wallfisch have done a good job in Blade Runner 2049 of building on the original Blade Runner score. Of course the original Blade Runner score was very heavy on synthesizers and except for some elements of OHMSS Bond scores have never been. It was also refreshing in the interview that Villenueve was very forthright and honest about having discussions with EON about Bond 25. It certainly doesn't mean he is going to do it, but there does appear to be a legitimate chance.
Another thought with regards to the possibility of two Bond films being shot back to back: Blade Runner 2049 is listed of having a running time of 2 hrs 44 minutes. It might not be that big of a stretch to think that Villenueve with the right script/scripts could shoot enough ofr two films within a reasonable time frame. Another thing we might be able to see as a positive re Villenueve's interest in Bond 25 is that if he has had or is having serious discussions with EON he has most likely read the script or a treatment and hasn't been scared off by it. :))

He sounds pretty positive and keen.

My only fear is EON delaying Bond 25 to fit his busy schedule!!

May be that his other two projects could be delayed (neither appear to be even in pre-production).

I could see EON delaying until 2022 to fit his schedule and give Craig an even longer break.

IMO, that is not happening. The release date for Bond 25 has been announced and I am sure it ties in with whoever gets
the distribution deal, Craig is not getting any younger, the date for Purity has also been officially pushed back and MGM needs the
revenue that a new Bond film brings in. If Villenueve's schedule doesn't work, EON will go with another director...there are plenty of talented young directors out there who would be more than happy to do Bond 25 (and would probably cost a lot less $$$ than Villenueve who is the hot name right now).

Also I think that Denis has confirmed that his next project is Dune, which he called "the project of his life". So I'm pretty sure he'll be unavailable for Bond unless they push the release date further back. As you said he's the hottest name in town at the moment so of course Craig and the producers would want him to direct B25. Imagine how many other film offers he's getting?

I think you are right. After all the delay and uncertainty the release date is the release date and I can't see that shifting.

It's possible Denis may want to direct Bond before production on his dream project to distance himself from another sci-fi film for a bit.

I too can't see eon pushing the release date back any further. In fact despite the speculation I'd imagine the director is a done deal....whoever it is.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

I think so too. I doubt Craig would sign up again without a script and a director.

I don't think eon would announce a release date with such essential details as the director not being known. They would run the risk of looking very unprofessional if it all went tips up and they had to bring in an unpreffered director at short notice.

Agreed. Just mildly disappointed that September has come and gone without more concrete info :# Hopefully soon.

I would also think that whether the director is Villenueve or someone else they would need/want some time to polish P&W's script...maybe even bring someone else in to work on it. This isn't unusual, in fact there is a long history of this with the Bond films.
Based on all the advanced notice and great reviews Blade Runner 2049 is getting, having Villenueve on board for Bond 25 would be considered a quite a coup for EON and reflects well on the Bond films being taken more seriously by film makers. Also, from the reviews I read, Villenueve has managed to maintain and build upon what was great about the original Blade Runner while putting his own mark on it. This would be something that could work well for Bond. With Villenueve at the helm, I think we would be back to a hard edged, more focused Bond film minus the shoe gazing which I think would play much better to Craig's strengths as Bond.

They have gone to press and set the release date.

The producers and team behind Bond are experts at what they do. Id be shocked if the director wasn't signed up pre date announcement.

I'd say the main reason behind no further news is that the director is finalising the cast he wants in, negotiating terms with the actors he wants agents and having a little input on the final polished script. And of course distribution and marketing rights. What it'd be to be a fly on EON's wall.

    I'm as keen as anyone for news and do my daily scout on AJB for anything new, we must me edging closer to a press conference with just over 2 yeas to release date. Although I can imagine a press conference bang on two years to the day of release................... -{

I haven't seen this posted elsewhere, so forgive me if it has been. But Martin Campbell says he's not really interested unless another actor is chosen for Bond, not as a slight to Craig but just because he'd prefer to do something fresher:

Hopefully Campbell will be interested in 2021-2022. Knowing EON, they'll want the 60th anniversary to also be the debut of Bond#7.

Will a man who's pushing 80 be able to direct a Bond film? Just because he's done it twice before doesn't mean it will be a walk in the park.

I was actually convinced Bond25 had a director in place when Craig signed on, but clearly that's not the case. I hope they chose one soon along with a distribusion deal because this has to be the next official news.

According to MI6community Barbara Broccoli said very recently that the director was not yet in place. Denis Villeneuve has also made statements to that effect.
