With the DC film/NTTD teasers 'countdown' we have seen, the actual 1min 30sec (guesstimate) NTTD teaser trailer must be coming next week. There is still nothing on BBFC, which must mean that the teaser is being dropped and not attached too any movie.
If the trailer were to drop on 11/22 the only new release I could see it being attached to would be 21 Bridges, the new action cop thriller starring Chadwick Bozeman (Black Panther). Also, Knives Out, starring DC and a big name ensemble cast is out 11/27 coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday in the US which is typically a busy weekend in theaters. Knives Out has been getting great reviews and has a good chance to become DC's first post Bond hit.

Im wondering if the DC connection in Knives Out is what EON have been waiting for to drop the trailer?
I'm wondering if the DC connection in Knives Out is what EON have been waiting for to drop the trailer?
I thought about this. I find it hard to see how a Rhian Johnson film is a big enough deal to put NTTD's marketing on hold. I can't imagine a request from DC would be enough to do that. Surely, a lot of publicity about DC's new Bond film would help Knives Out.
And if they had produced an NTTD teaser trailer just after filming ended, like Quantum, it would have come out in October, long before Knives' end of November release; no conflict.
The NTTD publicity strategy is a complete mystery, having seen how they have marketed Bond in the last 20 years.
Naomie Harris has a long interview in The Guardian where she talks about her career. NTTD gets a mention:
“In Bond 25 you have four strong, intelligent women who are responsible for driving the plot forward,” she says. “They’ve never had that in Bond before.” As for 007 himself, he’s now in a committed relationship. “He’s not disrespecting women, he’s not after a woman because of how attractive she looks and what quality lay she is. He’s genuinely in a relationship with a woman he respects, loves and cherishes.”
I don't like how some talk like there's never been smart female characters in a Bond film that drives the plot forward. Perhaps there's never been four of them before? I don't know. Judging by Harris' comment it looks like Bond will only sleep with oe woman (Swann, I assume) in this one. I can live with that if it's only for this movie. I hope EON at least changes Bond back to his old womanizing self in later movies. I'd hate it if they change the character like that.

Actually I don‘t get this whole silly talk of Naomi Harris. Bond stopped being „abusive“ towards women right after Sean Connery left. And even with him it was a stretch to describe Bond as „abusive“.
And yes, „this time we have intelligent women, blablabla“. NH better take a look at the previous 24 installments. There were pilots, astronauts, secret agents, nuclear physicists, computer programers and not to forget the very head of MI6...all played by women.
I really hate the franchise‘s disdain of its own history.
I agree. The interviews should stop focusing on how badly (supposedly) past Bond films have treated women and how much this one reflects the MeToo era. I don't think this is good PR. I don't think anyone says: "Let's og watch NTTD - I hear it's influenced by the MeToo movment and the women are really strong!"
Instead they should say how exciting and strong the characters (don't mention genders) are and how good the script is etc. Then the audience can see the movie and SEE how well the female characters are portrayed on screen. I don't think any normal person will have ha problem with that.
I really hate the franchise‘s disdain of its own history.
I understand what you mean, but I wouldn't characterize it as such.
Certainly EON itself is trying to appeal to contemporary audiences and that means remaining silent about certain characters and sequences from previous movies — some more than 50 years old — that now might rub a majority of moviegoers the wrong way. "Might" is the key word in that sentence.
So a lot of what comes out of the company itself is more PR than PC.
With individual actors, they're actors, for God's sake. People don't get into that business because they're brilliant, well-adjusted souls who care nothing about appearances or how others see them. In interviews they're going to say what they think makes them look good. Sometimes it'll be how lucky they are to be part of such a historic franchise. Other times it will be empty air aimed at social media's "woke" element. They might even believe what they're saying! But so what? How many Moneypennys have there been now? How many more will there be?
But I imagine EON give the actors talking points/suggest good topic and topics to avoid. It seems like (I could of cource be wrong) that this time they are incouraged to talk about this "new" style of having strong female characters and how Bond finally treats them well. Not a good route to go down.
But I imagine EON give the actors talking points/suggest good topic and topics to avoid.
I'm sure you're right. All of this is calculated and over-calculated. There's potentially a billion dollars riding on this movie. But whatever the talking points might be, we can be sure that they have been designed to get seats into cinemas. Craig is a Gen Xer (as am I) playing a character that hit the screen when the Boomers were young. Much of what EON is doing is aimed at Millennials and Gen Z audiences who have no investment in a spy from a Cold War that ended before they were born. If they just targeted proven Bond fans, EON would be lucky to match the returns for the latest Fast and Furious installment.
They are saying what they think they need to say to keep the woke media from attempting to torpedo the film/franchise.
And from a narrative perspective, since Craig’s films are all connected, wouldn’t it be off if this film had picked up with womanizing single Bond given the way the last one ended? Fleming’s Bond followed a similar arc. I’m not saying that this is the Bond film I want, but it’s the only film that narratively makes sense with Daniel Craig in the role.
I’m bored with Craig’s Bond, and I don’t think I’m alone. But at least this gives them the opening to get back to the basics next time around...whenever that may be. I really believe that Jeffrey Deaver provided the blueprint for what a modern Bond should look like. I wish EON would follow it. Step 1 is getting a much younger (early 30s) man to play the role.
I don't know if the general public is "bored" with Craig's Bond (the receipts for SPECTRE would not seem to support that). I would agree that no matter how well NTTD does at the box office the franchise would be best served with Craig moving on (and I am a huge Craig/Bond fan). A younger Bond where the past is referenced and acknowledged, including how it has contributed to forming Bond, but remains in the past and doesn't crop up as plot points in the films. I always am very wary of the "he did one too many" syndrome and for a franchise like Bond, that would really put them in the critical cross hairs. IMO, that shouldn't be a problem as long as the film is good as Craig appears to be physically up to the task. That being said, there appears to be a pattern these days of films getting getting generally negative reviews from "professional critics" and doing well despite them. While that phenom has generally applied to Bond films which are usually lumped into the "critic proof" category it has not been as widespread. Hopefully NTTD will be a good farewell to the franchise for Craig and a treat for the fans.
I'm not bored with Craig's Bond. I really look forward to watching him in a new Bond movie next year. That's not to say I'm not bored with some aspects of his Bond movies. The need for making everything personal and especially about his childhood needs to go, I'd like to see Bond getting a mission and doing his job again. The world building where everything is connected needs to go too.
I also look forward to seeing a younger man in the role like you do, and preferably a more traditional Bond.

I generally like ‘world building’, but Bond has done a terrible job with it. Things can be interconnected without the overly personal angle the films have taken.
The closest thing to a shake up has been the implication of Bond being bisexual in Skyfall during the introduction scene with Silva, though everyone in the production has officially denied it and fans have their own way of either confirming or denying it. Certainly, this would be a "woke" moment au current with the interest in particular by Millennials with LGBTQ concerns.
I always thought that line was about Bond turning the tables on Silva. It was some clever jiu jitsu on his part.
It's left to interpretation as a 21st century double entendre. That's how many fans choose to see it and essentially how the production team has explained it, while others see it as an indication that at the very least Bond has experimented sexually with other men. Some also see it as a reference to the torture scene in Casino Royale, itself with an underpinning of homoeroticism in how LeChiffre admires Bond's naked body and takes out his frustration on the man's genitals. But certainly the franchise would have avoided even the suggestion of anything but Bond's heterosexuality in the past.
Screenwriter John Logan definitely didn't want it left to interpretation:
“Some people claim it’s because I’m, in fact, gay but not true at all,” Logan told THR at the New York premiere of the film, held by Tribeca Film Institute. “Sam and I were discussing, there were so many scenes where Bond goes mano-a-mano with the villain, whether it’s Dr. No or Goldfinger or whatever, and there’s been so many ways to do a cat-and-mouse and intimidate Bond, and we thought, what would truly make the audience uncomfortable is sexual intimidation; playing the sort of homoerotic card that is sort of always there subtextually with characters like Scaramanga in ‘Man With the Golden Gun’ or ‘Dr. No.’ So we just decided that we should play the card and enjoy it.”
“You could read it that way,” Bardem said to EW.com when asked about Silva’s sexuality. “That option was there in the script. The word that [director Sam Mendes] kept using was ‘uncomfortableness’. Beyond the sexuality, he wanted it to feel like you don’t know if Silva’s joking or not.”
Like I wrote in the post, that's essentially how the production team has explained it, but there's really nothing on the screen either way, hence a double entendre. It could still go either way, just like Pussy Galore's line in the film about being "immune" when there's no literal confirmation she's lesbian in the film (versus the book). That's why the previous Bond films scrupulously avoided anything that might remotely question Bond's heterosexuality. In films loaded with innuendo and implication, a hint becomes an admission.
It's interesting in that interview that it's really the interviewer who says Bond isn't bisexual, though. Logan's quote as phrased could just as easily be about audiences assuming the bisexual suggestive scene was written because he himself is gay. (I'll assume there was more confirmation of Logan's denial about the character that happened off the page, but the wording by Logan is rather ambiguous as to what he is denying.)
I'm guessing the Casino NTTD teaser tweet will drop tomorrow, or Sunday. I'd be surprised if we don't get the actual NTTD teaser trailer by the end of November.
Oh well, that didn't age well. And since we have had various birthday tweets, a DC action scene countup tweet, and still nothing on BBFC, which would suggest maybe nothing for another 10 days at least. Quantum had a month between its teaser and first full trailer. For a full trailer to be with Star Wars, the teaser needs to drop imminently.
I recognise other franchises don't do, start of filming press conferences, monthly production vlogs, actor/character specific vlogs, release stills soon after filming begins, location press conferences and photo shoots, and a lot of joint-marketing, for example Coke Zero or Heineken; but the dearth of official publicity for NTTD, even compared to other movies and franchises is inexplicable.
A huge budget movie that is out in 4 months and 15 days, and bar some obtuse comments from actors in some recent articles, we've had almost zip. WTF.
Here's a complete guess on my part based upon nothing in particular: the first teaser drops 11/27 for the kick off of the Thanksgiving Weekend in the USA....which is generally a pretty big movie attendance weekend, plus we also have the wide release of Knives Out.
Another, initially IMAX only special trailer drops with Star Wars along with teaser posters just before XMAS. After the first of the year, the publicity machine starts to kick in culminating in the full trailer dropping during broadcast of the Superbowl on Sunday 2/2/20 followed by a full on publicity blitz: talk show appearances, interviews, all the other promotional stuff.
I think the wait on the new trailer is to give space to the Knives Out promotion and not to get lost in all the holiday season film promotion. But the release of the holiday films will be a great place to promote NTTD.

I know I initially floated the full trailer during the super bowl, but upon reflection, that would cost them way too much so I think it’s unlikely. Full trailer in February does still seem likely to me. Teaser with Star Wars.
Just my humble opinion so no need for comments lecturing me on how genius the NTTD-marketing is:
Currently I‘m a bit fed up with the franchise. There is a completely new film in post-production with probably 2.5ish hours of run time yet we get next to nothing. No BTS-look, no summaries, no photos.
On the other hand the franchise’s heads are handing out licences line there’s no tomorrow in order to sell over-expensive products or spam their social-media channels with really pointless stuff.
I know they don‘t want to relive the SPECTRE-PR fail but at sometime you should start building excitement and 3 months for a film as grand as Bond just seems to close and frankly lazy.
The German newspaper Express has interviewed Daniel Craig. I have no idea how reliable the Express is, it seems like a tabloid. Since I haven't learned any German since 1988 I simply ran the relavant parts of the interview through Google Translate.
Is it a coincidence that Ana de Armas plays in this movie and is also the next Bond Girl?
Daniel Craig: Yes and no. When we were working on the Bond movie, director Cary Fukunaga came up to me and asked, "Do you know Ana? I want to have her for our movie ". Ana and I had just shot "Knives Out" and it was obvious that I voted for them.
The chapter Bond is really finished for you?
Daniel Craig: Yes! In the future someone else has to do it!
007 was a big part of her professional life. What's next on your wish list?
Daniel Craig: I have none. I'm in the happy situation, where I'm sent many scripts and offers me quite different roles. My only plan is to work with good and nice people.
Thanks! It was nice to read. It seems Daniel is definitely more relaxed and in better spirits than he was in Spectre press. Gives me hope for this one!
It's behind a paywall, but aparaently this exchange is in there:
"You were brought in to work on the latest James Bond script. Have you read the original Bond books by Ian Fleming — and if so, what do you think are the best and worst?
I hadn’t read them, but started while I was working on the movie. I don’t want to say which ones I was inspired by just yet."
So PWB's contributions to the script is inspired by particular Bond novels. Interesting.
