Kingsman 2 only made $100 million domestic. It was widely considered to have underperformed.

Kingsman 2 made $411m theatrical + $80m home video on a budget of $104m. The people who made that profit are not complaining...

Indeed. And Bond is an international brand. For Skyfall the US gross was less than a third of the final $1.1 billion worldwide take. The US is important, but for Studios these days the international market is also very important.
  • HowardBHowardB USAPosts: 2,767MI6 Agent
The international market for Bond is huge.......bigger than the US. LTK, often reviled for not being a big box office success was actually a huge hit in Europe and other overseas markets; it was the US box office that was disappointing.

I think the point is generally that the US market counts for a lot more than other markets. US dollars are worth more because the studios are American (even though Bond is UK-produced). All money is not created equal.

But sometimes I get the impression that Americans probably think that foreign films are often flops if they don't make a huge profit in the US alone.

My guess is a director has been chosen and we just don’t know who it is yet.

    Exactly.

+1 -{ I'm certain given time restraints etc for the release
Date. All major players have been signed up. "It's not

Something like that. The main reason for that is to avoid the leaks from last time.

DC has a movie coming out April 27th. I have a feeling they are waiting for that time to announce anything Bond 25 related in order to give that project more press, in much the same way he announced he was coming back while doing press for Logan Lucky. DC is a producer, after all...

That film must be Kings with Halle Berry. Craig looks quite fit in the Kings trailer. He apparently packed some weight on for Logan Lucky and from recent photos and clips hasn't lost it. Plenty of time until Bond 25 begins shooting for Craig to get back into Bond shape.
Definitely no big Bond 25 news until Craig finishes promoting Kings, although I am sure he will be asked.

no that doesn't sound right, he was lean and wiry and dangerous looking in Logan Lucky. He even "gits neckid" so we can make an objective comparison. Not quite the TV wrestler he was in Casino..., but definitely not puffy-looking.

He did that talk-show appearance we all watched officially announcing he'd do Bond 25, while promoting the release of Logan Lucky. That was last August? This new puffy look is definitely post-Logan Lucky.

Perhaps he’s packing on the calories to put on muscle, and will look to cut closer to production?

I saw Logan Lucky and while he didn't appear "puffy" as he does now, he had definitely "beefed up" IMO. Could the "puffy" face be
some swelling from a cosmetic surgery or just a few too many pints and rich meals and not much working out? Time will tell but I believe Craig has too much professional pride to go out as the Pillsbury Dough Bond. He will get on his workout and nutrition program and slim down and regain lean muscle mass. At 50, realistically he probably won't look like he did in his 30's but he'll look very fit, much as he did in SPECTRE.

That's not exactly an earth shattering box office number. Profit or not. And the reviews were terrible.

I definitely wouldn’t say terrible. Mixed is more accurate.

I think it did good enough business to make a
    Third film a certainty. ;)

Not really. It has a 52% RT score.

I’m no expert in Rotten Tomatoes but doesn’t that score mean that 52% of the expert reviews for the film were positive and 48% were negative? By definition that sounds fairly mixed to me.

Kingsmen 1 made $414M at the box office and Kingmen 2 $410M. Just not sure why the insistence on it being some wildly underperforming movie compared to the first...

Matthew Vaughn has said he flew over to have discussions with Eon a while back...

Now, that would be a surprise. He is supposed to be working on 'I am Pilgrim', based on the book of the same name, which is about a spy called back to do one last mission. Most film projects never get past the development stage, so he could be free for Bond25.

Vaughn's last Kingsman film did very well, $400m worldwide gross on a $100m budget. Got a 66% audience Rotten Tomatoes score too.

I still think it will be Mendes for Bond25. But, Vaughn must be a strong candidate for a future Bond film.

Kingsman 2 only made $100 million domestic. It was widely considered to have underperformed.

I so disliked the first that I gave the second a miss. That said, I enjoy most of Vaughn’s films.

Interesting.....but we are talking about the Daily Mail. 8-)

I have to say, two years ago I had a fabulous trip to Amsterdam and London. One thing I will never forget is reading the British Tabs on the short hop from Amsterdam to Heathrow. Reading the tabs was truly an out of body parallel universe experience for this Yank.

The columnist, Baz Bamigboye, has a very solid track record with Bond rumors. It was also written about by the Variety columnist who first broke the Boyle story 2 weeks ago...

Good point. I could see that happening. Only seven very long weeks then until we hear something else... Then again... He might just talk about expected production start dates and how come having no director is OK because Marc Forster was only announced by EON (not tabloid rumours) in June 2007.

BTW, at this point in 2014, Ralph Fiennes had said Spectre would begin filming in October. Wrong, but at least a cast member thought they knew what was happening.

Missed that it was reported by Baz. He does have a very good track record with Bond stuff.

It is possible that Boyle could get his present project completed in time and a lot of the Bond pre-production would be done by EON's experienced team anyway. Casting would also be a bit more streamlined as the MI6 team (Q,M,, Moneypenny, etc) are already in place....just the bad guys and other roles. Boyle is used to working with scriptwriter John Hodge so any re-writes or final polish should go pretty smoothly. My biggest curiosity of course is what did Hodge and Boyle come up with that has gotten EON and Craig's attention to the point of tossing P&W's script? I hope it's not too far out. Trainspotting was full of grit and the blackest of humour but there was also some whimsy and a good dose of humanity injected into a very difficult subject matter. Boyle's The Beach had a great exotic location, beautiful visuals and the ability to go from paradise to violent hell. No doubt there is great potential here for making a really outstanding Bond film.

Speaking of which, the upcoming Avengers sequel (april 27th) is meant to be a Guardians of the Galaxy crossover, for which Mr. Hinx's services would have been required. Maybe they've been waiting on him?

For whatever reason, I just assumed that whatever Hodge and Boyle have come up with would be a standalone story.... but I could be totally wrong. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Bellucci and Dave Bautista return along with Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter.
