I noticed that when I got the email. A 32% price jump!!! :s

I was surprised to get the email since I am not part of the project.

The size chart is interesting. Looks like classic fit unless you size down.

With you there 007jb it seems to have jumped for us UK guys , plus another 30euros for posting I believe.
I'm suddenly twitchy but don't want to be the person to cause the project not going a head.
Is it worth emailing Luigi ?

    Ive dropped him a line
Given our exchange rate and delivery, it equates to £630...
I was in at original price, but unfortunately simply cant justify such a huge increase for (lets face it) the equiv of a riviera!
    Will mull it over

Looked at the Size Chart and looks like sizes are large.
If you require the more fitted - Screen Accurate result ...... I would recommend sizing DOWN one size as per the QOS Harrington Jacket.
Form Filled in and sent back to Luigi.
Remember Luigi cannot start the Manufacturing Process until he receives the minimum 45 commitments.

I’m going guess there are a quite a few people holding off with payment until pricing concerns are addressed by TF.

I would absolutely ask Luigi about the price, and at the same time you may want to request he send one to me to do a vlog for sizing. Vital that sizing questions are taken care of since there is an opportunity for tag customization.....I think both are important.

If I was to speculate perhaps the price increase was because we did not hit the original required minimum, but that is only a guess.

Reply received re pricing from Luigi
David, Re prototype Luigi says email him to see if its possible to "borrow" it....

"The price of the polo is based on a very special searching of the fabric requested. In order to find the components and raw materials proper of the polo they took a long time to seek the proper one. You may understand that producing such a small amount of units makes the price higher. The request is 55-60 units but as per the list given there were about 45 units guaranteed. I personally asked the company to have the chance to make this project happen so they decided to have 10-15 units to sell in the store. In this case we’re taking a risk too in order to satisfy the forum demand.

I could understand the fact that at first stage the price stated was lower, 505€, but that one was just an initial evaluation from the production. The price is made by various factors and when all the suppliers reply they had to add all component and the price come up at 670€.

Than there’s to consider that a prototype has been developed for evaluation and pattern makers and specialist had to work on modifications requested.

This project is very unique and has been developed based on the forum requests, so please consider this as a very exclusive and one of a kind."

Yes, received this from Luigi as well who has asked me to post the following:

’d like to clarify few points and I kindly ask you to share these reasons with the forum members.

That is a hefty inflation of price, especially for a t-shirt.
  • For everyone who feels obligated to point out the obvious, that it's "basically a sunspel" or a "t-shirt" or just "a piece of fabric", save it. I think we are all aware that a great many of Bond items are over-priced for what they are. Contribute or gracefully bow out. Mantis has gone to a great amount of trouble for this project to happen along with Luigi. For a company like Tom Ford to do this by request is quite extraordinary. If you don't believe me, just look at all the projects that attempt to get started on here but never see the light of day; most companies couldn't care less about the Bond connection, but the smart ones do. Time is money and TF and Luigi have put in a lot of time and effort for this. Yes, the price increase is unfortunate, but it is what it is. Tom Ford is not an eBay seller you can haggle with. Bottom line, let's consider all factors here, and not just the price tag.

I think the raised eye brows were more at how the price increase was added without explanation at TF end.

    We have the reasoning now!

Having worked with TF closely on several things, big and small, I have only admiration for the way the company works.

And also greatly respect David for getting this to fruition

Thank you Mantis for inquiring for the price increase!
I'm greatful for what you are doing for the forum.
    Luigi's explanations make sense.
Since we are producing an SA polo in limited pieces, would it be possible to add a small tag with the mention of "bond 21"?
    That would make our polo's more unique -{

The price is actually rather impressive. A polo with specific measurements and materials blend/dye sourcing is more complicated than it looks. You’re asking TF to use their employees time for a micro project that offers little-to-no marketing or public relations with a larger community. It takes a project manager, materials identification and production, one or more of their designers, manufacturing, and someone who convinced the company by producing a few for the store, showing the volume is so low that there is likely waste and cost economies to be concerned about on their end. That means this project is likely meeting minimum viability standards and they’re still doing it. It is admirable. The revenue they get from this is truly minimal.

If it counts for anything. I have TF polos of 5 years and they still look new. It is an outstanding quality.

Thanks gents....much appreciated. I thought the biggest influence would be the numbers dwindling. I DO hope TF makes a few extra in different sizes as ultimately people will see this thread a month or 6 from now and ask if anyone wants to sell theirs. The customization is an uber cool aspect and I am going to take full advantage of it.

Hi guys, unfortunately, this morning I needed also to inform Luigi that it's not possible for me to call the last necessary price adjustment.
I ask for your understanding and hope that this will not have any negative effects for anyone else.
Thanks again to David (and all other members involved) for your incredible commitment to realise this project.

I absolutely understand if people need to reconsider and would NEVER hold a decision like this against people. The reality is none of you caused this price hike....it was the original diminishing of interested parties to the final individuals that influenced this.

In the end this is a piece of fabric and it would never create a rift in our community....

    Wise words David.
In the past items like this would literally kill me if I missed out, since my kids burst in to my life I have a whole new perspective on whats actually important. Which really boils down to family and friends and happiness.
That said Im still in :))

Im still in as well, however looking forward to some clarity on sizing when David gets a chance to do a vlog. Measurements seem to indicate a better chest fit with 48 but it seems a bit narrow in the shoulder. Going up in the shoulder will give a loser fit in the chest/body.

    Hi Everyone

    With regards to chriscollins007 question.
The easiest way to deduct if we still have enough to proceed – 45 units min (+ Tom Ford contribution + 10-15 units).
Please see below the last Pubished List by David Z.

Please Ammend i.e. take your name OFF the list then Re-Publish.

Hopefully we should be able to quickly establish ……. If we still have enough for Luigi to proceed to production.
