James Bond Rolex Question

Hi
I have an ever increasing collection of James Bond Omega but these are a lot cheaper compaired to a James Bond Rolex.
I don't have £30 to £50K to spend on a No Crown guard Rolex has anyone here put together a Sort of Rolex Frankenstein watch using a Rolex Movement and replacement and vintage Rolex parts, I know it will not be the real thing but better than a fake in my eyes.
The same goes with the buzz saw Rolex has anyone done a copy of that too
Any info or thoughts would be appricated
Ross

Does it have to be an early Sub? Bond has worn much more modern versions in the films up to 1989. You can get them at decent prices and the 5513 is the most beautiful of them all.

You can get Dalton's Date Sub for about 4 to 6k.
7-8k for a proper 5513 (riveted bracelet et al).
By the time you get the 6538, I think that you will appreciate the beauty of the 5513 and decide against it.
    a reasonable rate of return

I do fancy a 5513 and a 5512 eventually as I am a Steve McQueen fan too but fancy the original look of the no crown bond

This will cost you a fortune!
Rolex spare parts are not cheap...
Also, The 6538 uses very specific parts (bezel, bezel insert, Crown,...)
I'm afraid the end result won't look good.

    The 5513 is the one I'll be buying when I get up the nerve to purchase a vintage Sub. I know Connery didn't wear it, but Laz and Roger are good enough for me. -{

What's people's thoughts on this, bit of a Frankenstein watch made up mostly of real Rolex parts so I am told, genuine reflex movement and albeit about £5k a genuine one like this sold at auction for $267k in 2014.

    Hum...Fake dial, Crown and bezel.
Would need other pics to comment on the case.

Point taken, think the guy said the crown, hands and bezel were all Rolex
Might look good to the untrained eye but those that know

a cobbled-together Rolex with fake or not matching part bears no value*. It may be attractive for you for the moment but good luck selling such a watch again.

Like others say, try to get a 5513, but you won't be able to find decent 5513 for less than $8000,--

    * keep in mind that my Submariner project could have been reversed to the original state and I've only unsed genuine Rolex parts.

What is Rolex stance on servicing a "Frankenwatch"? I know omega won't service my SM300 because it has replacement parts, even though other than the crystal all parts are genuine nos. Is a Frankenwatch one that uses some genuine and some non genuine parts? Like Higgins Rolex my SM300 can be put back to its original state as I have the original parts kept safely.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Rolex won't service a watch with non-genuine parts - unless you pay them to bring it back into original condition. And that goes down to aftermarket bezel inserts!

I've once tried to get a watch without a dial serviced by them, they even refused to put a new dial on it.

Hate to agree with the freak, but Higgins is right. Leave that thing well alone.

    I second this comment.
Rolex will not service a watch that is not 100% original.

What would one pay for a 5512 as worn by Steve McQueen and any suggestions of where to get genuine 5512 or 5513 relox

chrono24.com is a good place to start.
Hodinkee usually has some for sale, not sure right now.

Authorized Rolex dealers will often sell pre-owned/vintage watches. A reputable jeweler who knew what you were looking for could keep his/her eyes open for you. I'd also want to hold the thing before I bought it since you'll likely be parting with $8-12k. Chrono24 and Hodinkee are fun places to browse watches, but I'd never buy from them.

It could be a long process to get a good one, so I would recommend patience above all else.

I wouldnt buy vintage unless it was from a reputable source. Its a minefield

There are a few places in UK which are highly recommended, will dig out the names

Be very careful with Chrono24. The risks on your side (depending on how you pay) as similar or even worse than with an ebay transacion.

I've purchased from HQ Milton in the past and can recommend them.
Make sure that you are getting a watch that has not been polished down - so lugs, case flanks and crownguards must be thick.

If you've found one, please post it here with pics or alternatively contact Asp9mm or myself for a third opinion.

All good advice from Higgy baby and the others but here is my slant. Vintage rolex is a mine field and what doesn't come through reputable dealers for thorough inspection goes on ebay or chrono 24. The experts are few and far between and even they have been fooled in the past. The sweeping hand website is top quality and an expert, as is Mike at the old watch shop in southport or even Haywood Milton at Miltons jewellers throughout Liverpool and Chester. Haywood has the best collection of vintage rolex you will ever see in your lifetime and is always the first place I send anyone looking to buy vintage rolex or obtain advice on the same. Comments on rolex service are spot on, if its not original, they don't want to know. There new stance is not to fit any rolex parts to watches in for service unless the parts have just come out of their own drawer, strict is the word with those guys and they prefer to think of the watch as theirs rather than yours. Stay well away from bodged up old Rolex and go with a nice submariner 5513 or 16610 or similar. Enjoy.
