They will be awarding themselves a pay rise next, as a reward for the marvellous job they've done recently :s

:)) If a pay rise had have been added to one of the amendments, It would have
    Passed with a huge majority ! ;)

That would be the one thing most mps would vote for!
Perhaps Theresa should just prompt mps to back her deal with unlimited expenses! I hear the ornamental duck House industry ciuld do with a boost, as could hotel "special interest" channels!

Yes, such bribery and horse trading has often broken logjams in Parliament before and Mrs May has shown that she will stoop to anything to get her Deal through. We've already seen it in action in fact with her promised "bribery" of Labour constituency MPs.

These past two years since the referendum have certainly given me a new perspective on British politics! I was foolish enough to think that British MPs were all honourable gentlemen or ladies!

I wonder where that title comes from? I think it no longer applies in many cases!

Meanwhile I await the opening of the other thread.

It has gone quiet on Brexit news. I know that the MPs are on holiday but should we be worried when it goes so quiet? I speak in whispers about Brexit here because I don't want to attract the attention of the children to this topic so they can have this closed down too! 8-) :))

This is specifically the non-argumentative political thread, of course. No arguments here at all. I'll re-open the other one now, but the usual terms and conditions apply.

I hope all our MPs return refreshed and eager to get back to
Work ( :)) can't say that with a straight face ) to sort out the
    Brexit issues.

David Lammy would sign in agreement in a flash with that!

odd how someone calls Ana Soubry a Nazi, and gets cautioned by the Police.
While David Lammy can call people Nazis and Not get cautioned ? :)) seems

I find quite alarming how easily the word Nazi gets bandied around ! A BBC reporter called Rees-Mogg and the erg nazis the other week too! Why? Because Ree-Mogg retweeted something from the AFD that he stated he disagreed with it.

Farage and his new party have come up in the lead for the European elections in two successive polls now and of a general was run would become the 3rd biggest party. Corbyn is being urged to back a second referendum to stop voters dissappearing, and of course the tories are getting a severe nosebleed. Labour may well get into government next, destroy the economy then we will put the grown ups back in charge.... Its just like a constant cycle.

The scary thing about Corbyn & his colleagues (other than the terrible anti-semiticism stuff) is that they have actually managed to literally brainwash a generation in to believing that everything is free ... including running up as much debt as you like, as it'll all be sorted for you. A few minutes on the likes of twitter searching for this is a real eye-opener & actually beggars belief.

Perhaps Corbyn is waiting to see how Labour does in the local elections before he commits to a second referendum? The argument is that he will drive off many remain voters but he has also to think about all the Labour voters who voted to leave the EU. I live in a Labour area and when I have spoken to people I don't think I have met any one who voted to stay in the EU. I have also yet to meet any one among the people who vote Labour who actually likes Corbyn!

This is true, one mention of scrapping student loans and we saw queues of students voting! What's remarkable is though how his later interview after the election where he said it was just an idea and probably not realistic got very little coverage, particularly on the leftist BBC. My wife who has a student loan that will be paid off in about 4 years was spewing about it! I've heard some very reasoned arguments as to why students should pay for their education..

I‘ll mark that quote when the topic comes to Greece again and the legend about the Austerity policy from the EU.

Imo it has nothing to do with being in or out of the E.U. ... it’s simply a fundamental requirement as a nation. Sadly this is something that the last Labour government here never grasped, hence the mess we were in a few years ago.

    That was not my point.

Greece has cheated themselfs into the Euro, they inflated their national dept in the following years - which was only possible because they had the currency.
Their administration was highly corrupt and totally inefficient in collecting taxes and partly still is.

After 2008, they could not get more money and needed to be bailed out by other countries with tax money from other european states because noone else was willing to give them any further money for their failed economy.
Truth is also, that large European banks including german and french banks, where heavily invested in Greece and would have been in big trouble if Greece would have been falling over the edge. So saving Greece was also in the interest for german and french economies.

Under heavy protest, they have been forced to reduce their spendings and to work over their government structure.

Legend is that the EU is reponsible for the austerity program and the following issues like unemployment of young people and so on.

Truth is, that until today, the public service is still corrupt and inefficient in collecting taxes and if they would have been working on that issue more, the austerity policy would not have been so grave.

It‘s exactly like what you have said about Tories*:
They (Greece) believed and still believe that everything is for free , including running up as much debt as you like as it‘ll be sorted out with tax money from other EU citizens.

    * which I am not able to comment or verify

Its Labour under Blair and Brown who over spent and borrowed money then subsequently ran the economy into the ground. Under John Major the economy and tax revenues were in a good condition, Blair and Brown ruined that and Since Cameron the tories have been repairing the damage. When you see the sheer amount of waste the whole austerity thing in the UK becomes a bit of a joke with front line staff and Joe public taking the hit.

Hapless Labour MP Diane Abbot has been caught drinking a Marks and Spencer Mojito on a London train, despite alcohol being banned on those trains.... She is such a stalwart of the lefty socialist idealism :))
Also worth pointing out that Abbot campaigns for the ban on cheap alcohol on the basis its consumed in public and causes anti social problems.

Since taking an interest in British politics, I quickly came to the conclusion that Diane Abbott had been promoted to positions far beyond her abilities.
