Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says in an interview: "In any other country Joe Biden and I wouldn't be in the same party, but we are".
I agree. To my eyes it would be natural if the left wing of the Democtatic Party should break out and perhaps call themselves The Progressive Party. One could also ask why Trump and Mitt Romney are in the same party. Four parties should work, after all most democracies have at least twice as many parties in parliment. It could also teach some politicians that working with other parties isn't treason, it's how democracy usually works.
Who would ever have guessed five years ago that the most important speakers at the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos would be Donald Trump and a 17 year old girl from Sweden? )
„Particularly striking is the dramatic growth in self-employment to more than five million, a sure indicator of an enterprising economy.“
That‘s all I need to know.
I‘d like to see the demographics of that „new enterprising economy“
I wouldn‘t be surprised to see that the new self-employed are because they have no role anymore in the normal enterprises and simply have no other choice.

I'm disapointed Nancy Pelosi tore up Trump's state of the union speech like that. It's far smarter to leave the bad behavior to Trump to make the difference clearer. It's especially unwise to do such a thing on a day Trump managed to largely control himself and and behave statesmanlike much of the time.
Whichever side you are on, it is the most disrespectful thing I have ever seen, clearly she has lost track of her own status and position and frankly I hope it comes back to bite her in the ****
But I can agree it's the most disrespectful thing I've seen Pelosi do. I comentator thought the tearing of papers looked pre-planned and theatrical in spite of the ignored handshake. He may be right.
Speaking of disrespectful and disgusting attitude of politicians...this is what happened today here in Germany after the election of a bew chief minister.
I think the failed impeacements helped Trump more. That's a good philosofical question: Should one let a president do anything if an impeacment will help him get re-elected?
And if Trump had done the same thing (he's the president so techically he couldn't do the same thing, but ...) no'oe would take much notice of it. He really lowered the bar for himself.

Well, there is a story behind that „disgusting attitude“
The new (comparable to a US) Governor has been the first leader who has been elected with the votes of the rightwing populists from the AfD, which is known to be particularly very Nazi in Thueringen.
This man should have never accepted the vote and the reaction was a response to the historic questions internationally, what the germans have done to protest the uprise of the Nazis in the Weimar Republic.
So I personally applaud her for making a statement against Nazis and probably would have done the same!

This is the backstory. Still it’s a demeanor I don’t want to see of any politician. There are other ways „to show them“ than getting down to this childish low-level.
I second that. The same goes for Nancy Pelosi. She could have made a well-worded statement to the press afterwards would have been more classy and even adult.
Well, if she‘d have smiled and handed over the flowers with a handshake, she would have been the ‚sneaky, hiding fake‘ politician like they are often criticized on social media who think one thing and act directly contrary to their beliefs.
No matter what she‘d have done, people would have jumped on her.
In doubt, I‘d have chosen the straightforward path and obviously she did, too.
Additionally we are speaking about new Nazis here, not sure if a measured response ( like many politicians in the Weimar Republic chose) is a too weak statement.
If you are dealing with evil and mean people, sometimes one has to make a statement, otherwise they run you over. In the other hand, you are not winning against evil and mean people when you are meeting them on their playing field.

But the point is, how do you deal with extreme right votes. Do you restrain yourself always and keep the stiff upper lip and only throw cottonballs, or is that not enough.

Pelosi's act was sophomoric, but (a) it's a blip compared to the crap the Republicans pull every day, and (b) it will have zero effect on any election anywhere in the US. People here care about decorum in politics only to the extent that it applies to the "other side", and it poses no obstacle to their voting preferences. Especially the current American right.

I agree.
I‘ve recently read about „outragement waves“ in social media, which are created and echoed by the worst offenders.
An example may be the reporting on Fox News about the Pelosi incident.
I observe them in particular when it goes against mainstream media like the public tv in Germany or against the BBC for example. The intention is clear and we should all be very worried about it.
And let me add that it was shocking what we‘ve heard at the traditional breakfast prayer.
That‘s what the outrage should be about by the evangelical right and not about a ripped script.

A couple of years ago I discovered the man who started the Breakfast Prayers came from a small village not far from here. I actually went to school there for a year. And yes, it's funny how Fox News are outraged by this one act by Peolsi, but absolutely everything Trump does is great. )
Trump has tweeted his opinion on the on the length of Roger Stone's sentence. Isn't that kind of theing normal, you ask? Yes, in dictatorships leaders of states influence the courts' decisions all the time. In democracies it's unconstitutional, because independent courts is a cornerstone of a free democracy.
Yes, the President has tweeted that the thinks the Executive branch has the right to intervene in court decisions by the Judicial branch. This is in direct contradiction of the constitution. This is a real test for all those people in the gun lobby who says the constitution is so important to them.
“The President has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case.” A.G. Barr This doesn’t mean that I do not have, as President, the legal right to do so, I do, but I have so far chosen not to!
Well, people from the far right will tell you that this is all part of ‚draining the swamp‘ and fighting against the corrupt elite.
Interesting how much Trump stands up for someone, who according to himself - he barely does know (Roger Stone).
Also interesting what happened to proud republicans who where outraged about the perceived lack of law, morale and conduct under democratic presidents and candidates.
Also interesting that „law abiding citizens“ ( we hear this often from NRA members when it helps them) are very silent in the last 3 years.
I‘ve read recently an article, if the outrage (on both sides) about the impeachment will be a deciding factor in the upcoming elections.
The author said no, because the outrage is only, when the other political camp does something to be outraged about. So, it‘s a reinforcing factor but does not let people move to the other camp.

Yes, that's disrespectful. To use a senator McCain quote out of context: "it's not about who they are - it's about who you are".
Yeah, that was pretty rude of her.
